Causes: Military & Veterans Organizations, Veterans
Mission: The sdvc is a catalyst that inspires collaboration and cooperation among service partners to deliver premier support for veterans in the san diego region.
Programs: The san diego veterans coalition was organized in 2012 using the collective impact model, and is a premier san diego countywide monthly convener of over 150 unique member and participating organizations, businesses, and agencies, as well as, four action groups and other activities and events. The collective impact model is based on leveraging relationships with other veteran and family serving organizations so that we may provide veterans and their families with a complete array of services and other opportunities.
2017 san diego veterans coalition key accomplishments:- created position for executive director to build operations that recruit and develop member organizations and recognize best practices;- presented the sdvc model to state and national convenings seeking to replicate our collective impact beyond the local level;- increased membership by 20% through improved recruiting methods to attract quality organizations who serve veterans and their families in san diego county;- strengthened action groups to identify gaps and collaborations to improve services in areas of physical/emotional health; veterans empowered, successful and thriving; employment and financial; and family life through goal setting and active recruiting;- established the sdvc women veterans network to create cohesive networking group for women veterans and allies;- built relationships with development partners to raise $35k in event/sponsorship funds to support sdvc partner collaboration;- directly endorsed and assisted sdvc members (2-1-1 san diego; university of san diego; national university; one va) in securing grants and funding for their operations and projects;- sponsored two major events in partnership with the county of san diego and san diego state university: national county veterans service officer conference (over 1000 attendees) and the first ever women veterans forum (over 400 women veterans and allies);- sponsored member informational forums for california assembly member todd gloria of the veterans affairs committee and working group for deported veterans;- developed policy statement supporting service of transgendered service membersstrengthened member organizations by supporting, sponsoring and publicizing events for the following organizations and collaborations: mhs courage 2 call;
