Causes: Economic Development
Mission: To stimulate, improve, develop and promote the economy of san diego north county through vigorous advocacy in marketing the region for industrial and commercial development and investment. The desired outcome is an increase in job opportunities, as well as an increase in production output and distribution.
Programs: San diego north economic development council (sdnedc) acts in various advisory roles throughout north county including:- airport advisory board: provides input on issues that range from site selection to development of the master plan. The board is impaneled for 3 years and meets monthly. - caltrans external advisory liasion committee (ceal): provides input on issues that are relevant to caltrans and transportion. The board meets monthly. - escondido workforce partnership: sdnedc works with the city of escondido to provide planning assistance for a new program promoting the idea of working where you live. The program will work to assist in traning residents to meet the needs of the local employers. - national university institute advisory board: provides input on policy and issues that are related to the institute's curriculum and governance. The board meets quarterly. - regional housing working group (sandag): provides input on issues related to the development of affordable housing and smart growth. The group meets monthly. - san diego futures foundation: supports accessibility to information technology resources, increases computer literacy and provides job training to enable a broader range of citizens to cross the digital divide. Sdff is dedicated to improving the lives of san diego county's community members.
continued to implement the prosperity on purpose program - a vision for north county is a project of the sdnedc in conjuction with the cities of north county and the surrounding unincorporated areas. It is an unprecedented project that will explore and plan for the future of north county by interconnecting and optimizing the region's resources, including but not limited to analyzing land use, employment, education, infrastructure, transportation, water and health care.
sdnedc, in partnership with the san diego workforce partnership and the north county career centers, assists businesses with downsizing, restructuring, re-employment and re-training efforts. The rapid response team offers businesses a variety of outplacement services including: conducting company visits to review and discuss services for adverting or planning for layoffs and closures; coordinating on-site visits with the workforce partnership, employment development department and local community colleges to communicate re-employment, re-training and unemployment insurance benefits to your employees; organizing on-site seminars on labor market information resources; arranging customized services; and assisting with on-site company enrollment eligibility certification.
