Mission: SafeHouse Denver assists adults, youth, and children to reclaim their right to a life free from violence. Emergency Shelter provides safe, temporary housing, support, information, resources, and community resource referrals to assist survivors in developing safety plans and setting goals within a trauma-informed environment. The Shelters Family Program offers weekly support groups, individual advocacy, and family meetings for residents. The Children’s Program involves educational assistance, and therapeutic play and intervention groups that support children in developing safety plans, conflict resolution skills, and developing healthy relationships. SafeHouse Denver’s Counseling and Advocacy Center offers support services to adults, youth, and children in need of domestic violence services but not emergency shelter. The programs provide: individual counseling and advocacy; educational and support groups; and access to community resources. The organization also provides a 24-hour Crisis/Information Line that offers crisis intervention, safety planning and informed resource referral. The Extended Stay Program (ESP) provides safe, temporary housing to survivors who are out of acute crisis but in need of short-term housing while they work to access transitional or permanent housing as well as other stability-building resources.

Programs: The Emergency Shelter at SafeHouse Denver is one of four core services. For survivors of domestic violence, the most dangerous time is when they choose to leave their abuser. Without a safe place to go, the victim could choose to stay with a lethal abuser, or they could leave and risk escalating violence. SafeHouse Denver is proud to be able to provide women and children with safe and secure shelter, in a confidential location. Our non-residential Counseling and Advocacy Center provides services for women, children and male victims of domestic violence with counseling and advocacy services, including emotional support, crisis intervention and safety planning. We maintain a 24 hour Crisis line that is staffed with staff or trained volunteers. SafeHouse Denver is committed to providing specialized education with the purpose of increasing community awareness, encouraging prevention, and developing effective community responses.
