The goal is to establish a psychologically and physically safe and secure environment that will promote individual and group development. The therapeutic approach is need-responsive, presenting students with a stabilizing environment, structure, safety, routine, predictability, and respect. Students engage in mood monitoring throughout the day, weekly collaborative problem-solving, daily conferencing with their educational case manager, and the use of i-statements. A culture of kindness permeates the program.
