Mission: To give dog owners and dog professionals, alike, the information they need to better understand their dogs' behavior (and how dogs view HUMAN behavior in the context of their species). We help people become more canine-intuitive in their responses to their dogs, and the information provided is at-home user-friendly (no trainers or lesson plans required), positive, practical and proactive. We simply want people to be happy with their dogs (and dogs to be happy with their people) so fewer dogs wind up at animal shelters!
Results: Our 20+ trainings have been held coast-to-coast in the U.S. (and in Toronto), and copies of "SMILE! and other practical life lessons your dogs can teach you (while you are training them)" are now in 14 countries (the result of our work at humane conferences, veterinary conferences and canine professional networking). What is most gratifying is how many people helped by the book go on to get copies for their friends, family and co-workers. Yea! The more people who understand their dogs' behavior (and some of their own), the happier people can be with their dogs (and their dogs with them!) ...And 100% of the funds raised then get used for dog rescue and to donate books to libraries and prison dog-training programs. The SMILE! Project (at www.givesmiles.us) is 100% volunteer. Cool!
Target demographics: dog owners (especially owners of "at-risk" dogs)
Direct beneficiaries per year: 300+ shelter personnel & rescuers, veterinarians, trainers & boarding staff (through conference training), plus more than a thousand dogs and their owners (through “SMILE!”)
Geographic areas served: nationwide & US Territories
Programs: Our shelter's SMILE! Project provides dog owners with user-friendly information about their dogs' behavior so they can work through (and prevent) behavior issues, relate to their dogs better and shape the dogs of their dreams. Got a dog question (or problem)? Let us help!
