Mission: SAVE is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 to address the needs of people experiencing intimate partner violence. SAVE's mission is to provide alternatives to domestic violence through support services, advocacy, and education; to assist domestic violence victims and their families to end the cycle of violence.
Target demographics: SAVE's mission is to strengthen every individual and family we serve with the knowledge and support needed to end the cycle of abuse and build healthier lives.
Direct beneficiaries per year: In the past year, SAVE answered nearly 2,000 calls to our crisis line, provided 1,485 counseling sessions, 328 sessions of children's group and individual counseling, reached over 6,000 students via our teen dating violence prevention program, assisted 1,291 victims via our police department-based advocacy program, filed 114 temporary restraining orders, trained 66 volunteers to become domestic violence counselors, and provided emergency shelter (90 day program) to 100 women and children.
Geographic areas served: Southern Alameda County, however, SAVE serves victims of domestic violence from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Programs: Programs: SAVE's programs include a 24-hour crisis hotline staffed by trained family violence counselors, shelter services to provide emergency assistance to individuals and families fleeing abuse, transitional housing to bridge the gap between emergency shelter and independent living, individual and group counseling, children's programs to break the pattern of learned violence, and community programs of prevention, intervention and education.
