Mission: To care for families of children with complex medical needs by providing comfort compassion and a sense of community. We keep the families of hospitalized children together in a "home away from home".
Programs: Ronald mcdonald houses - our five houses and three family rooms provide a "home away from home" to keep families together. The houses are located near lurie children's hospital, university of chicago comer children's hospital, loyola university medical center, advocate children's hospital and central dupage hospital, the family rooms are located inside edward hospital, lurie children's and university of chicago comer children's hospital. The houses and family rooms allow families to eat, sleep and find the emotional support they need just blocks from where their child is being treated. In 2017 we provided 44,794 family nights to 6,093 families, offering them care and comfort during their hours of greatest need. While we suggest a donation of $10 per night, no family is ever turned away if they are unable to pay.
care mobile - our care mobile program, in partnership with advocate children's hospital, provided essential health service to over 2,669 children in underserved areas in a mobile environment. Children receive check-ups, immunizations and referrals for speciality care, including asthma, cardiology and allergies. Our goal is to find a "health care home" for all children who receive services through the care mobile program.
scholarship program - our scholarship program provided 57 students a $4,000 a year renewable scholarship, to academically outstanding, community-minded and economically challenged young people to help fulfill their educational goals.
Outstanding charity - they really directly impact so many families each and every night. Just opened the 5th House in the Chicago area (@ Central DuPage Hospital) and it is fantastic. Volunteer groups cook meals and the design is beautiful - feels really like "home". A total of 153 rooms at all the Houses.
The people are great and the governance is top-shelf. Open and transparent. I know many people that volunteer there - everyone says they always get more than they give.
These families are really in need and this charity really helps them at a critical time.
