Mission: The mission of rochester community tv is to give city of rochester residents a forum for the free expression of ideas and the expertise and technology to express them.
Programs: To operate public access cable television channels for residents of the city of rochester, and to provide for citizen participation in and of the electronic medium operating in the local community. Accomplishments during the year included: 1. 60 adult students participated in rctv classes and workshops to learn media production skills. Topics included lighting, photography, video editing, studio-based production, etc. 2. 22 rochester youth participated in summer 2016 youth employment program, working as interns at rctv. (continued on schedule o)twelve of the youth produced an original teleplay entitled toronto; ten of the youth worked with ad council and learned social marketing skills. The students received stipends for their work. 3. In partnership with writers and books, rctv staff hosted three summer day camp programs for 50 youth, ages 9 to 16. The students produced short videos inspired by the newbery award or honor books. 4. Rctv staff worked with youth groups from in-control, and helped them to produce narrative stories, video public service announcements and studio based talk shows on youth health topics. 5. 55 programs were produced at rctv facilities on a regular basis, averaging 1,500 hours of original programming each year. 6. Rctv sent out monthly electronic newsletters to update 800 members, supporters and volunteers about new classes and workshops, new programs, and new rctv projects. 7. 6 members (adult volunteers) of the rctv producers' co-op met regularly and helped each other to produce a total of 36 video programs. 8. Rctv staff continued to produce several regular programs including conversations with creatives, which received its third bronze telly award. 9. On dec. 6, 2016, rctv hosted an open house and annual meeting for the community; and presented awards to the producers of eight programs. 10. Rctv launched an lpfm station to serve the community of rochester. The station broadcasts on the frequency of 100. 9 and offers diverse programming, engaging youth and adults. 60 volunteers regularly produce programs for wxir. 11. Rctv partnered in hosting the 90 second newbery film festival on march 19, 2017 at the george eastman museum's dryden theatre. The event featured children's author james kennedy, and youth-made films about award winning children's books. Several rctv youth producers attended and their films were featured in the festival. 12. Rctv hosted the black music month celebration on june 10, 2017; the event was held at rctv and featured several live performances that were broadcast on 100. 9 wxir.
