Causes: Arts & Culture, Radio, Television
Mission: To educate the public about the cultural heritage inherent in the uniquely american musical art form of classic jazz and bring classic jazz to a wide and varied audience.
Programs: Funds supported not-for-profit weekly broadcasts of the educational riverwalk jazz radio series on public radio stations and websites nationwide. Featuring the jim cullum jazz band and dozens of artists devoted to classical jazz styles of the early 20th century, the series tells the story of jazz and blues through live musical and dramatic performances interwoven with historical recordings, archival interviews, oral histories, and original historical narratives. Central to the project mission is the preservation of the riverwalk jazz body of work in a website created in tandem with the stanford university library offering streaming audio free of charge for 25 years. In addition to the weekly broadcast series, content development and quality control on the riverwalk jazz-stanford university web project was ongoing throughout 2014.
