Mission: The richardson center for global engagement promotes global peace and dialogue by identifying and working on areas of opportunity for engagement and citizen-diplomacy in countries and communities not usually open to traditional diplomatic channels.
Programs: International peace and dialogue program engages directly with foreign leaders, governments and regimes:north korea - the center played a major role in the return of american prisoner otto warmbier from north korea. In addition, the center mediated a back channel between the north koreans and the white house to de-escalate tensions and lead to negotiations. Political prisoners/hostages - the center helped in the release of: fanta nawara (gambia), josh holt (venezuela), oron shaul/hadar goldin/ebra mengistu (gaza/hamas), myanmar political prisoners, jeff woodke (nigel), tsevtan vasilev (bulgaria), and formed a new partnership with the fbi hostage recovery fusion cell. Myanmar - the center worked with myanmar government towards the resolution of the conflict in rakhine state. Middle east - the center conducted it's 3rd generational ambassador's program in boston. 15 participants from israel, turkey and egypt. Cuba - the center worked towards the resumption of exchange of young political leaders. Death penalty - the center held a two-day seminar in ny, to encourage the abolishment of the death penalty world-wide.
establishing wildlife program in africa the center launched a program during 2013 to assist and boost efforts aimed at securing a safe and secure future for threatened african populations. Working in partnership with african parks, the center supported a poacher to protector amnesty and rancher training in the republic of congo and continues support for a permanent training facility. The center developed a curriculum for asset forfeiture regime training; issued two independent newsletters, and followed through the poacher-to-protector pilot initiated the year before. In 2017, the center partnered with humane society us to help the chimpanzee survivors in liberia.
