Mission: The mission of radio free europe/radio liberty (rfe/rl) is to promote democratic values and institutions by reporting the news in countries where a free press is banned by the government or not fully established.
Programs: Current time tv and digital (ct): ct provides russian speakers globally with access to balanced, accurate, topical & trustworthy info. , & serves as a reality check on disinformation that is driving conflict in the region. The network focuses foremost on news, but also offers a rich mix of feature and entertainment programming and documentaries that underscore the values of free & open societies. In fy 17, ct went from providing 1 hour of daily tv programming to being a full-fledged 24/7 channel stream. Distribution has grown to 46 distributors in 15 countries. The entire live steam is available globally. Ct engages audiences with its content via social media & is currently active on various social media platforms. In fy 17, ct doubled total video views on digital platforms with well over 300 million views.
radio farda:radio farda is one of the few remaining sources of uncensored news and information for the people in iran. Radio farda breaks through gov't censorship to deliver accurate news, informed discussion, and cultural programming to iranian audiences. In 2017, radio farda's heightened focus on digital reporting resulted in a huge increase in reach and audience engagement across social media platforms involving topics that would otherwise not be covered.
russian language service:the russian language service is a multi-platform alternative to the russian federation's state-run media, providing audiences in and around russia with professional news & analysis of current affairs. As the russian federation witnesses increasing control of the media by state authorities, rfe/rl is a key forum for those who lack access to other means of free expression. In 2017, the russian language service enhanced its video production capabilities including inclusion in a russian language satellite stream and social media platforms.

We provide what many people cannot get locally: uncensored news, responsible discussion and open debate. We broadcast in 26 languages to 23 countries with over 400 full-time journalists, 750 freelancers and 17 local bureaus. Rfe/rl is one of the most comprehensive news operations in the world. Our journalist are on the front lines in the fight for media freedom in their countries and often put themselves at great risk to do their jobs.
