Mission: At Reel Stories we believe when women and non-binary people are better represented behind the scenes, they’ll be better represented on screen and beyond. Through workshops, after school programs, public screenings, and summer programs we teach women and non-binary people to view media more critically, create their own media, and aspire to leadership.
Programs: In order to create gender equity behind the scenes in media, Reel Stories creates a pipeline for young women and non-binary youth to gain the skills they need to enter the film industry, and the confidence they need to succeed. We offer Beginner and Advanced Summer Filmmaking Programs, Tuition-free After-School Filmmaking Programs and Filmmaking Intensives and Workshops throughout the year. We also create networks and opportunities for Pre-Professionals including a youth-led production company. Reel Stories programs are taught by industry professionals and the student films created in our programs have gained nation-wide recognition in film festivals. Reel Stories is combatting gender inequity on and off screen by providing safe and welcoming environments for women and non-binary people to learn media literacy, filmmaking techniques, and leadership skills.
