Causes: Health, Patient & Family Support
Mission: The Red Devils mission is to fund services that improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families. "Red Devil" is a nickname for a chemotherapy drug familiar to many breast cancer patients for its brilliant red color. The Red Devils was inspired by the deaths of two young women with breast cancer,Jessica Cowling (31) and Ginny Schardt(44). Recognizing that many people with breast cancer did not have the support and love that surrounded Jessica and Ginny, their friends and families created The Red Devils to addresss some critical needs that ease the burden of day-to-day living. Nurses and social workers at 26 Maryland hospitals and breast cancer centers work with The Red Devils to refer breast cancer patients to providers of transportation to and from treatment, meals and groceries, house cleaning, pain management therapies, home care, and other services. Services funded by The Red Devils are provided at no cost to breast cancer patients or their families.
Programs: In 2007, we touched the lives of 452 patients living with breast cancer. We helped ease their economic and emotional burdens by funding their transportation for treatment, meals and groceries, house cleanings, prescription and medical equipment co-payments, complementary therapies, and other critical needs.
