Mission: The goal of R4R is to enhance the quality of life of the individuals who because of a handicapping situation would benefit by the use of the tapes. The music can be used for therapy, friendship for the elderly, and activities and nursing homes. Any disabled individual can be a borrower. R4R was started in 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by Mr. Ralph Hoy. Mr. Hoy knew the benefits of music for the elderly and handicapped. Michael Hoy after a motorcycle accident benefited by the use of music during his therapy. He went on to graduate from Central Michigan University with a degree in Recreational Therapy. Then taking over the national library after Mr. Hoy passed away in 1979.
