Causes: Food, Food, Agriculture & Nutrition
Mission: To grow the next generation of farmers by connecting our community to sustainable agriculture. More specifically, to operate an urban farm; to offer education about growing, distributing, and preparing healthy food and a responsible and vibrant sustainable food system; and to engage the community in agricultural activities and learning about where their food comes from.
Programs: Engage city dwellers experientially in their local food system to increase the likelihood they will eat fresh, nutrient dense, locally produced foods. Activities included (1) group work days - corporate and school groups experience workdays for team-building and learn about the revitalizing effects of urban agriculture and the importance of growing new urban farm entrepreneurs. (2) wine + weeds - a weekly volunteer opportunity from april to october where members build community and learn the specifics of urban farming including plant identification, weeding techniques, mulching and more. (3) special events - the farm is host to multiple events throughout the year, such as dinners, concerts, movie nights, and festivals, all of which expose our neighboring community to the positive outcomes of a sustainable food system and thereby cultivate high community recognition and engagement with our mission and values.
