Queen City Unity partnered with the Mecklenburg Guardian ad Litem Advocacy Foundation to hold a coat and PJ drive in an effort to collect items for all of our child clients (children involved in Juvenile DSS Court due to allegations of abuse and/or neglect - who are in in DSS custody). Jamal and his wife Cassie (who is a Guardian ad Litem Volunteer and advocates for children in foster care), were incredible to work with. Their energy and positivism is contagious. They believe what they say and they act on what they believe. This non-profit is all about bringing people together for positive action for the community. I am very thankful for Queen City Unity. I have had the pleasure of meeting the entire Board and many fellow 'QCU Ambassadors' (volunteers) through different events such as the Queen City Unity UNITE Festival. This group is challenging the status quo of segregation, hatred and division through direct action and a wide array of programs. They are nimble and able to address issues as they arise, but are also building a vision of a more equal Charlotte through measured steps. Great first year and looking forward to the future!

I’ve been in Charlotte for 19 years now...since I was 4 years old. Charlotte is the only home I’ve ever really known. It’s where my heart is. Growing up I knew that I was fortunate to live in a diverse and up-and-coming city but didn’t realize that not everyone was living in the same Charlotte. As I got older, went to college at UNCC, and started exposing myself to all of the facets of Charlotte, I realized that there were groups of people that didn’t have the same warm place in their heart for this city. People who were struggling to be recognized, represented, and fought for. I knew I needed to do something to get involved but I didn’t know what to do. How could one person make a difference in a city of hundreds of thousands of people? That’s when I heard the ambassadors from QCU speak at the equality march. They spoke about unifying our city, bringing people together, and, put simply, loving each other regardless of any differences we may have. I was inspired by their stories, their determination, and their mission and knew that this was where I was meant to get involved. Since then I have been able to see first-hand the changes that individuals coming together can make. Whether it’s a school supply drive, coat drive, or getting together on a Saturday to be surrounded and united by an amazing, diverse group of people, I can see the change this organization is driving. I can see a future where Charlotte truly is united and I am so lucky to be able to be a part of it.

Hello to all my brothers and sisters in Charlotte, NC !!! (The Queen City)...As a long time transplant who originally came here to join my partner and transfered schools, ironically Queens Univ., I fell in love with what was, at that time, a medium size city.
Fast Forward 20 something years...., I had left for a year and a half but made it back to my "Home". My first night back in what is now a " Big City", I find this Facebook page for #queencityunity so I inquired about becoming an ambassador. From there, it has been an awesome experience getting involved with this great cause of uniting the people of Charlotte. I had thought we needed this type of organization for years. I have been so blessed to meet and work with the founders and ambassadors.
Months after getting involved and on the night of our first "Charlotte UNITE Festival", Jorge Millares, the founder informed me that I was the very First person to contact them to join this most important journey toward Unity and thus far it has been humbling, empowering and joyful.
Thanks to all of you have and will join our Efforts to get out of your comfort zone bring Peace and Unity amongst All the people of this Great city. We really appreciate your support. SPREAD LOVE.✌ KELs
