Mission: Quality Trust is a non-profit advocacy organization that supports children and adults who have developmental disabilities (ie., autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome) and their families in the metropolitan-region. Quality Trust is a vital resource for people with disabilities and families that a have a loved one with a disability; we help them solve problems and get the tools necessary to lead a fulfilling life, full of promise and meaningful experiences. We assist them to get social security benefits, get essential tutoring and therapies to succeed in school, we help their families identify accessible housing and equipment, and ensure they get full access to live the best life possible in the Nation’s Capital and the Washington-metropolitan region.
Programs: There are 20,000 residents with developmental disabilities in the DC Metropolitan area. The ADVOCACY Team operates under the Director of Quality Enhancement Supports, with 10 Advocates. Advocacy resolves issues regarding health care, housing, jobs, day care, transportation and access to information and leadership training. The MONITORING team of three work through site visits, the use of standardized assessments throughout the community group homes to pay attention to system-wide problems for individuals.Monitors report their findings. LEGAL ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION: Three attorneys provide access to legal services for citizens of the District and provide legal education for attorneys around issues affecting citizens with developmental disabilities to enhance the quality of legal services. The operating philosophy is to ensure that people have access to existing community legal services first and provide additional supports when needed. COMMUNITY COLLABORATION AND OUTREACH:Quality Trust acts as a catalyst for positive change among all stakeholders in the disabilities system. QT's Outreach anchors and reinforces our commitment to our mission and cornerstone principles by creating outreach, training, and information exchange throughout the District. This effort is staffed by a full-time Training and Information Specialist. Family EmPOWERment Center: A resource center for families with a member with a disability, to support family goals through action plans.Staffed by three Family Navigators, a clinical Social Worker and a Family Liaison, the Center empowers and supports families to exercize choice, control and full participation in community life.
