This is a really important nonprofit pushing for a simultaneously rampant & forgotten issue — the end to preventable stillbirth in the United States. I say rampant and forgotten because stillbirth is tragically more common that most people realize, and historically it has been taboo to speak about. PUSH mobilizes an amazing collective of volunteer activists to change healthcare norms across the country and empower pregnant people to protect themselves and their babies.

I wouldn't be holding my double rainbow baby boy in my arms without PUSH for empowered pregnancy!
Their pregnancy tips, guidance, and support helped me advocate during my pregnancy with him! PUSH helped me be empowered with decision making with each Dr. appointment that I had during all my prenatal care! I have learned so much about knowing your baby & body best! Listening to your mama instincts, and to be vocal and speak up if I notice a change. I learned about kick counting and how to track my babies movements! Every expecting parent should be able to feel empowered & informed and to feel confident and know all risks & benefits! PUSH helped me to address concerns and ask questions to my team of drs. To not leave until I felt reassured. I felt no page was left un-turned. I love being a Change maker with PUSH, it's gave me the chance to Push for change in honor of my angel babies Carter & Adelynn. No families should have to endure the lifelong tragedy and trauma of losing their childen to stillbirth, when it could of been prevented. I have found a whole new way of loving my angel babies aloud while pushing for better maternal and prenatal care! We want to make sure more families get to bring home healthy babies! I love this nonprofit organization with my whole heart and am so thankful and grateful to be a part of their mission!

I stumbled upon this nonprofit shortly after losing my son to an umbilical cord accident. At first, I was an admirer, and then another bereaved mother encouraged me to get involved. This incredible group of human beings, with the love that pours from their own broken hearts, have helped to mend my broken heart. It is such an honor to work alongside other bereaved parents in honor of our children, and I am SO PROUD of the work PUSH has done in only a couple of years.

After I experienced the death and stillbirth of my daughter at 38 weeks pregnant I was completely in shock. She was my fifth baby. In all my pregnancies I heard stillbirth only referenced briefly when I was close to going over due. So when she died, I thought I was the only person to go through it, I believed what they told me “lightning struck.” It never sat right with me as my pregnancy had been monitored by an MFM for a two vessel cord. I was receiving more than the standard of care was reassured constantly that she was well and I didn’t even need to return after 34 weeks. She ended up also having a cord knot (the third of my children to have one) that clotted. I learned that even if the knot had been noted, my care wouldn’t have changed as they are treated casually. There are specific moments in my care where I felt that if handled differently we could have had a better chance at saving my daughter. Like when I noticed decreased movements and a decel on her NST. I was restless and unable to make peace and started to question things. I began listening and reading to more and more stillbirth stories, learning how I was not the only one this happened too. I learned about PUSH for empowered pregnancy on a podcast they were on, and was so appreciative to find people that were out there speaking about stillbirth and busting myths and fighting and making corrections to gaps in healthcare. They have so many resources for families and are a completely inclusive organization. They are truly selfless and want to make change. I wish I learned about them BEFORE stillbirth and it bothered me that organizations like PUSH are not apart of standard prenatal care, largely because of the stigma that still remains around stillbirth. I appreciate PUSH and know they will make big changes in the USA and potentially other countries as well one day.

Volunteering for PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy has given me an outlet for the grief and rage over our middle son Owen’s unexpected death after a “textbook” perfect pregnancy. PUSH is a community of passionate bereaved parents who are committed to ending preventable stillbirths in America and are working tirelessly at every angle for this neglected public health crisis to be addressed. We are honored to be able to join forces with other non-profits, medical providers and advocates to leverage our collective power and raise our voices for all babies gone too soon and appreciate the support we’ve received for this important mission. Our children should all have a fighting chance against stillbirth, which sadly ours did not. PUSH will continue to demand change so that fewer families will suffer the lifelong trauma and grief that we are having to endure.

I am the grandmother of Aurora, a full term baby girl born still in October of 2020 after a normal healthy pregnancy. Prior to my granddaughter's death I thought stillbirth was something that happened back in the day. I now know that it happens 65 times a day, every single single day, all across the US.
Many stillbirths are preventable, especially late term losses. I believe my granddaughter was one of them. Through a variety of platforms PUSH For Empowered Pregnancy has taken the lead in breaking the deadly silence surrounding stillbirth. They are correcting commonly held misbeliefs such as babies slow down at the end of pregnancy. They are pushing for legislation and standard of care changes that will educate and empower pregnant people, their families and providers so that more families leave the hospital with their baby instead of a memory box and a lifetime of grief and what ifs. There mission to end preventable stillbirth is something that will have a lasting impact for generations to come. I am so very grateful for the work they are doing.

PUSH is attempting to fill a huge void in the treatment of pregnant people in America. The mission is specifically to lower preventable stillbirth and this by necessity includes standing up for the rights of all pregnant people, trying to reduce their mortality as well as that of their babies. It is absolutely personal to me as I lost my first daughter, Marian, to a preventable stillbirth. I recommend this organization to anyone who has lost a baby, who has a friend or family member who lost a baby, and to anyone who has not lost a baby and wants to keep it that way!

As the Co-Director of Awareness I feel honored to work tirelessly alongside fellow loss families to re-educate the public and the medical community on safe pregnancy protocols to help prevent stillbirths. Unfortunately the misinformation that allowed our son Owen to die in 2015 is still circulating today, so we aren’t taking our time dealing with this crisis. We are constantly pushing for change through bold awareness campaigns, regular discussions on multiple social media platforms with families and birth workers, developing Rainbow Clinics to provide compassionate and thorough care for loss parents, and so much more! I am thankful to have an outlet for my grief where I can direct all my anger at our broken system and channel it into pushing for change to help other families bring their babies home safely in memory of all our babies. Owen #stillcounts & so do the 23,000 or more babies a year that are stillborn. We won’t stop fighting to end this crisis and are grateful for all the support we have received from families, policy makers, and the medical community alike because this is an issue that affects the whole country and it will take all of us to solve it. Join us!
