Mission: By providing essential and exceptional free legal services, Public Benefits Attorneys, Inc. (PBA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated to ensuring that those who are low-income or underrepresented gain access to vital income and health care benefits.
Programs: PBA’s lawyers handle complex administrative cases and appeals on behalf of people living with medical and/or mental health conditions. With 27 years of combined experience, we have the skill and dedication to represent people most often shut out of the legal system who lack access to representation, including people living with mental health issues or HIV/AIDS, people who are homeless, people with little or no income, women, families, immigrants, people with documented substance use and people who are formerly or currently incarcerated. We focus primarily on representing clients to obtain and maintain necessary public benefits, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), with automatically linked Medicare and/or Medi-Cal. We zealously pursue our clients’ best interest at the initial application and when necessary, subsequent levels of review, including reconsiderations, hearings in front of Administrative Law Judges and Appeals Council review.
