This small non-profit started as the dream of two dedicated individuals who lived in El Salvador, observed the extreme hardship, and decided that providing funds for very young children to experience preschool (and get one nutritious meal a day) could help break the cycle of poverty. Most of the 18 month-6 year olds who are sponsored come from single-parent homes where the mothers struggle daily to sell crafts or fruit or some other wares on the street to put food on the table. This observation led to a micro-lending program that provides training and assistance to these women. Recently, the program obtained a small grant to hire a social worker to assist the families in the program to gain the personal skills to cope with the poverty and violence that are part of the daily life in this small country.
