Mission: 100,000 members strong, the professional beauty association (pba) exists to elevate, unite and serve the beauty industry and the professionals who improve peoples' lives. Formed by the merger of beauty and barber supply institute (bbsi), american beauty association (aba) and the salon association (tsa) in 2002, and the addition of national cosmetology association (nca) in 2010, pba is the only organization to represent the entire professional beauty industry.
Programs: Signature events - we produce the most well-attended industry events to connect people with ideas, products and career opportunities. As part of a joint venture, pba in collaboration with italian partner bologna fiere s. P. A. , brings together the entire beauty industry each summer for cosmoprof north america (cpna). Cpna has been ranked in the gold 100 of trade show executive's rankings since 2012 and has remained in trade show news network's top 25 fastest growing tradeshows every year since 2012 as well. Pba additionally produces north american hairstyling awards (naha) the iconic photographic beauty competition, and beacon, a cosmetology student focused educational program held at pba's beauty week at cpna. Pba's international salon & spa expo (isse), is the west coast's biggest beauty trade show and is ranked by trade show news network as one of the top 250 trade shows in the u. S. In 2017, the show provided attendees 150 education classes and over 300 global manufacturers. This cash and carry event in long beach, ca brings licensed professionals to the biggest brands in the industry. Isse also provides licensed professionals and students with a wide variety of professional education classes in hair, nails, skin and business, including hands-on hair classes. Attendees also had the opportunity to test their skills with competitions in barbering and nails. In december 2017, pba also hosted the pba executive summit. This exclusive event brings together professional beauty executives from across the industry. This event focuses on high-level networking and presentations from thought leaders on timely topics such as digital disruption, re-engaging creativity for greater productivity & growth, data analysis of industry sales, and benchmarking beauty brands.

government affairs - pba's government affairs team works to influence local, state, and federal government policies and legislation. Advocating on behalf of our membership, our efforts include education regarding the importance of the professional beauty industry, licensing, and business growth. After analyzing legislation our goal is to explain the potential impact and advocate for the best solution for our members. Pba's government affairs team also manages advocacy programs that include outreach efforts among volunteers within our industry. Pba's government affairs team does engage and contract with outside firms to assist with direct lobbying at both the state and federal level. The range of the government affairs team includes conducting research, analyzing legislation, creating a strategic response to legislation, lobbying, building grassroots and organizing volunteers, advocacy campaigns and messaging, education outreach, and utilizing partnerships.
