Programs: Oil spill recovery insitute (osri) - established to support research, education and demonstration projets designed to respond to and understand the effects of oil spills in the arctic and subarctic marine environments. Osri's current partnerships are focused on improving the hydrological modeling to assist the ocean circulation forecast system in support of oil spill prevention and response. Osri also partners with industry and government agencies to support new equipment and technologies, ecological studies and workshops, osri also provides for education programs, fellowships and internships.
exxon valdez oil spill (evos) trustee council - the evostc has awarded pwssc a five-year multi-million dollar program to continue monitoring the long-term effects of the exxon valdez oil spill. This program has two components. 1) herring research and monitoring (hrm) - pwssc and other entity researchers work to improve our ability to predict herring populations, better understand aspects of the herring life cycle, overwinter food sources and bird predation. 2) gulf watch alaska long-term monitoring to understand the impacts of multiple ecosystem factors on the recovery of injured resources in the exxon valdez spill-affected regions.
