Preventionfocus, inc. Uses this curriculum in classrooms (elementary and middle schools) across the districts of erie county where the risk profiles for chemical dependency are high. life skills supper club - life skills supper club is a multifaceted program that engages girls 12 - 18 years of age in dynamic lessons where they are equipped with a knowledge base of nutrition, kitchen safety skills, budgeting, meal planning, and social skill competency enhancements. These girls come together over the course of 10 weeks and learn to cook from scratch, creating meals that would feed a family of 4 (on a budget). During this time, the facilitator uses group dynamics and personal reflection as tools to increase each girl's self-esteem, attachment to school, and perception of riskiness of behaviors like alcohol and drug abuse. The series covers many topics in a developmentally appropriate manner and aims to enhance the skills of communication and conflict resolution that the ladies already possess.
sport integrates substance abuse prevention with health promotion to help middle school students minimize and avoid substance use while increasing physical activity and other health-enhancing habits, including eating well and getting adequate sleep. The students complete a short, self-administered health behavior screen measuring physical activity and sport behaviors and norms, healthy nutrition, sleep, and alcohol use. During a one-on-one or small group session of up to three students, participants receive a booklet and a personally tailored consultation and complete a simple fitness prescription goal plan.
