Causes: Mental Health, Substance Abuse Treatment
Mission:
POWER’s mission is to help women reclaim their lives from addiction and related emotional health issues and improve the well-being of future generations.
Target demographics: women 18 years of age and older who are struggling with the disease of addiction
Direct beneficiaries per year: approximately 1,800 women
Geographic areas served: Allegheny County
Programs: POWER's first program, a halfway house located in Pittsburgh's Swissvale neighborhood, opened its doors in 1991. The site was Allegheny County's first residential halfway house program designed exclusively for women in recovery. Housed in a former convent, the 25-bed site offers comprehensive, quality care in a safe and healing environment to nearly 100 women each year. Women can stay at the halfway house for up to six months where they receive intensive treatment as they focus on building a strong foundation in recovery. POWER has expanded its programs over the past 30 years to include outpatient therapy (POWER New Day), mentorship (POWER Connection), and detox/rehab (POWER Restore).
