The innovation fund supports innovation in schools, targeted toward the delivery of quality education and leadership development. Portland, beaverton and hillsboro school districts each received grants to facilitate the education of early learners, by creating summer programs to assist kindergarteners getting ready for first grade. Portland public schools also received a grant to fund a leadership academy for teachers and principals and to experiment with the use of business managers in its high schools. In all cases the use of innovative methods was encouraged. The nike school innovation fund continued to build on the effort of nike and its employees who are engaged and supportive of public schools. The funds were not all expended in 5 years, so the program was extended to allow more time to expend the funds. Next year is expected to be the final year of the fund.
