Mission: The lakeland police athletic league, inc. Was formed to deter juvenile crime and violence utilizing recreation-oriented juvenile crime prevention programs that rely heavily upon athletics, recreational activities, and education to help children to right and stay right. Through our crime prevention programs, our mission and commitment is to "fill playgrounds, not prisons".
Programs: Lakeland pal currently has 39 youth enrolled in after-school programs where pal officers, along with colege interns & retired teachers, work with children to help them prepare for fcat tests and complete daily homework assignments. The afer school program assists the children and youth in their education and promotes educational values as well as mentoring them to be good citizens. Pal serves over 1000 children each year, providing activities such as youth football, cheerleading, baseball, basketball, track & field, wrestling and the driven 1 fitness program. Lakeland pal staff and volunteers mentor to hundreds of cheldren each year providing to children who may not be able to participate in other organized recreational activities due to transportation issues or economic reasons. The pal bus is utilized by the staff to pick up children from area schools and bring them to the simpson park center for the after-school program so mentoring and educational assistance can be provided.
