I love this rescue and what Erika does for the horses. Her horses are happy and healthy. She is up front about her animals and gets to know them very well so she can make sure she can pair them up with someone that will last a lifetime.

These folks care all about the horses. I have not adopted anything yet, but they have been patient and forth coming with my questions. Their adoption fees are VERY reasonable. I can't wait to be able to work with them more in the future.

I’ve been to Grune Heidi Farm and met Erica. I’ve seen the horses and facility, and I’ve made equipment donations in person.
This is a small rescue, but has a huge impact!
Erica has a “real” job outside of Grune Heidi Farm. Donations are 100% used to help horses: Mainly they help move unwanted Arabian, Saddlebred and other horses from a bad situation to a new home, and often that includes time at the rescue here in central Florida.
Grune Heidi Farm also has a LOT of connections, so people with Arabian, half-Arabian and Saddlebred horses they need to rehome connect with Grune Heidi Farm to find a new home. Those connections come from all over the US.

Grune Heidi is always making sure that horses which are dumped at a kill pen, get a second chance. GH subsequently trains the rescued horses to make sure(er) that these horses do not ever end up where they came from.

This rescue goes the extra mile when trying to save American Saddlebreds or Arabians from the horse slaughter pipeline. Great folks who work hard to do the correct thing.

This is one rescue that I trust to be totally transparent and put the needs of the horse first. I have had many conversations with this rescue and their volunteers and although I haven’t yet found the right horse, I’m confident I can trust them to help me make an informed decision that’s right for me AND the horse.

I adopted my first horse in YEARS about 8 or 9 years ago from Erika. She was a beautiful Tennessee Walker named Joy Erika had saved from slaughter. I also boarded my horses with her for YEARS. I had the privilege of seeing first hand the broken souls she saved from slaughter come back to life through her EXCEPTIONAL LOVE AND CARE!!!! If I could give 100 stars I would ❤️

Erica does a beautiful job rehabilitating Amish horses and giving them a second chance at a better life. She works tirelessly operating and caring for her rescues while working a full time job. The horses are groomed daily, given medical care, time off to settle in and sent to training for evaluation. She deserves this award!

The care that is provided to the horses at this rescue is beyond words. It’s not just getting them healthy physically and mentally but every effort is made to connect their identity through DNA. I was lucky enough to get one of the few boarding spots this nonprofit has to offset costs a number of years ago. I was coming in from out of state and knew nothing about Grune Heidi at the time, but being a life long equestrian I knew a few things about rescue barns, not all of what I knew what good. Erika and Grune Heidi proved in a short time that they did things right! Their knowledge of large animal husbandry, diet and need for proper training that was given to each animal they were responsible for was amazing. You wont find a better ran, caring, nonprofit to stand behind.

I love volunteering at Erika's. She has such a big heart and wants to help all the horses she can.

I’m a volunteer. I go on the weekends to help Erika get the horses settled for the night so I see first hand the tireless effort and bottomless love and compassion she pours into every horse in her care. This is evident in the affection the horses give back to her. They know they are loved by her. She is diligent in ensuring every horse is a right fit for the family and every family is a right fit for the horse. She goes above and beyond to have the horses trained prior to adoption to give them their best chance. And she provides care if needed after the adoption. I am continually in awe of everything she does and absolutely cannot say enough about the greatness and integrity of this rescue.

We adopted our very first horse from Erika at Grune Heidi and he is the absolute sweetest and well mannered horse. He was well cared for and vetted and you could tell how passionate and caring Erika is towards the animals she saves. This is an amazing rescue!

Grune Heidi rescue is the only rescue that I am aware of that has a policy of ALWAYS taking back any horse that has been adopted out that for whatever reason, can't stay in their new home no matter how much time has passed. Once a horse hits Grune Heidi rescue they are safe for life!!!!!!!!!

Erika Gilbert is a tireless advocate for the Arabian and Saddlebred breeds that end up in auction and slaughter pipelines. She rehabs them back to vim and vigor and does the homework necessary to make sure that the families that receive these horses are the best possible connections available. She also goes above and beyond to send DNA to the Arabian and Saddlebred registries to reunite these horses with their birthrights, show records, accolades, and it's all because of her passion.

I have watched GHF from a distance for a while now. I am so impressed with the dedication to quality care and training this farm pours into their horses. I also appreciate that they keep their numbers low in order to provide the best to those in their care. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to adopt from GHF.. in fact, if I were not on the polar opposite side of the country, that beautiful liver chestnut gelding would already be mine. I have visited with Erika of Grune Heidi Farm as well as followed her for years on FB watching her transform the lives of countless Arabians and Saddlebreds. She is one of the few rescues that goes above and beyond for the horses she takes in. When you adopt a horse from her, you can be assured that the horse has been totally vetted and accessed for their adoptability as well as she stands behind these horses if they need to come back. If I lived a bit closer, I would certainly volunteer for her.

Grune Heidi Horse Rescue & founder Erika Gilbert, is a philanthropic equine rescue program that saves hundreds of horses per year- despite operating on a razor thin budget & with only a small army of volunteers. Most of the horses they rescue would otherwise end up being exported for brutal slaughter or end up in other deplorable, inhumane conditions. Many of the horses they rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome were often former show horses. A valiant effort is made in every attempt to adopt them to wonderful owners that will give them the care they deserve- in addition to trying to reunite them with their heritage through breed specific blood tests. GHFR deserves to be recognized for the incredible work they do. Donors know their contributions are extremely well used to help these unwanted souls as they are returned to being valued family members as opposed to being discarded like trash.

Grune Heidi helped me get my dream horse through a repurpose program.

The poor, cast away animals that have the good fortune to come to Grune Heidi Farm are nearly immediately transformed back to their proud, healthy, best selves. That takes endless work, planning and a marrow -deep commitment to rescue and rehabilitation. I watch the transformation photographs pile up from the opposite side of the country and applaud the amazing accomplishments.

I went there with my nephew and had the pleasure of meeting Ehrika and see what she does for the horses she rescues. She puts the horses before her needs. And the care and love she gives each one that is blessed to be cared by her is beyond belief. But it’s true. She only feeds them the best too.

Erika is such a caring person to all of her rescues, getting them all healthy again after the terrible things they have been through. Grune Heidi’s truly a safe haven for our saddlebreds!

I contacted Erika a few years back as I was going nowhere with other Saddlebred rescues as I live in a different state. I asked Erika if I could adopt from her nonprofit and she let me know that, yes I could adopt from her agency, with a thorough reference check, etc.

Erika was expedient in her response to my question as well as pleasant and professional. Even though I did adopt from a different person, I would definitely adopt from Grune Heidi Farm Rescue Erika is extremely transparent as she posts her available horses on Facebook as well as having a website to view the goings on of this great non-profits!

A couple years ago this rescue stepped up and helped me rescue a beautiful bay arabian gelding whose owner fell on hard times and he was starving. The owner had reached out to the people that run the graduates of the 'kill-pen' page he had bought it at asking for help rehoming him. He was bad mouthed, and quickly shunned and the post was removed, thankfully i had taken a screen shot. I was not in the position to refeed a horse myself so I reached out to the horse community and was put in contact with this rescue. Eventhough they are located in Florida and I in Nc we worked through mutual contacts to get him picked up, seen by a vet, quarantined just in case and refed until he was strong enough to travel. He was then adopted by a girl and her family.

I volunteer here to learn more about horses and Erika does an amazing job helping the horses. She does everything in her power to bring them back to health, build up strength and then find them their perfect home. I've already been volunteering for a year and have no plans to stop!

I have adopted several horses from Erika (Grune Heidi Rescue). I followed several of them from the auctions thru quarantine to Grune Heidi to their forever home and it is AMAZING what they look like when she gets them and then when they get adopted....they look like different horses. She puts so much time and effort into these horses from getting donations and supplies to the care and love she puts into each one of them. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Erika for what she does for the very lucky horses that go to her rescue!!!

When ever they need a horse hauled we have helped and my son enjoys mowing the place to keep it safe for all the rescues there. They make sure each horse has a chance to regain its identity from birth. They make sure all adoptions are welcome to return if anything ever happens and the homes are perfect matches as can be. I visited her facility for three days. I was so impressed by her operation, her dedication, her 16 hour days working and taking care of all the horses, and her devotion to her animals! She is truly an AMAZING person!!!

I have known Erika and her animals for most of my life - the knowledge and passion she passes along is next to none! Erika spares no expense for the care and feeding programs she dedicates for the kind souls who are lucky enough to land at her farm. Grunge Heidi rescue farm has been an important staple in her local community for decades - she even works with owner surrenders and the local sheriffs department as the trusted place for unwanted or neglected horses and pets. Young people naturally gravitate to the farm, as they immediately recognize the valuable education and unmatched quality time they receive from Erika and impart on their equine friends in return. We've know Erika Gilbert & her rescue for over 11 years. It was by knowing her that we got 2 horses, bred one & ended up with 3 horses during that time. She's an amazing, selfless person who only thinks of what's best for the horses in her care & those she seeks to save from slaughter.

The care that Erika puts into each and every horse that passes through is top notch. Every horse has an individual feed program, vet and farrier care is never skimped on and each horse is partnered with the perfect person.

This is one of the best rescues I've seen or been involved with. Erica takes incredible care of the horses she saves. The transformation in the time she has them is amazing, not just physically but they learn to trust again which is so important. I have fostered for Erica and would do so again anytime she needs.

What can we say about Grune Heidi rescue??? Well, quite frankly... they’re AMAZING. The love and dedication, the hard work, and the beauty of not only the horses, but the farm, is truly a testament to Erika and her team. Each person we have encountered there has been a pleasure! I try to volunteer at Grune Heidi Farm when my schedule allows which is about once every other week. I love going to the farm to see the horses and Erika. Erika is always welcoming and the farm is always clean.

Grune Heidi Farm rescue does such wonderful work in saving the horses from the kill pens and THEN rehabbing them to be the beautiful horse partners that they are meant to be.

I've been priveledged to help Grune Heidi several times over the last few years. Their dedication to helping American Saddebred and Arabian horses in need is awesome. I especially liketheir Christmas Miracle mission. They travel to Pennsylvania to a high kill auction and save a few lucky horse's who other wise would have found themselves on a trip to the border. Erika and her volunteers bring these neglected and often abused horse's back from oblivion. Bring a twinkle back to their eyes and restore their souls. I will continue to help as I'm able and hope to visit some day.

I love this farm! Erika has the biggest heart and the most will power I've ever seen. She puts everything she has into this organization! To see what these horses have been through is horrific. I've seen horses come in and the expression on their faces are sad . She takes them in and within hours they start to change . Coming there in the morning and seeing all their happy faces will warm you heart without fail . You are saving 2 lives here truly . They truly are happy and so grateful that they have been saved . You can truly see it. I love everything about this place !!! ❤❤❤

Grune Heidi Horse Rescue has a wonderful dedication to saving horses from being sent to slaughter. All of their horses receive the best care and love. This non profit organization needs your donations to keep paying the high costs of feed, veterinary care and up keep of these rescue horses as they wait to be adopted.

This is a great rescue farm, I have the great opportunity to help out a bit on the weekend, these rescue horses are treated like high dollar show horses. They are so lucky to be at such a great facility.

This is a nice place---not fancy, but clean and well maintained . You can tell the horses are loved and well cared for. They are all friendly and groomed and happy. Erika is great. She was very easy to talk to, happy to help and answer any questions I had. She also discouraged me away from the horse I wanted because she knew it would not be a good fit and I really appreciate her honesty!!!! She already had a horse in mind for me and I now have him living with me!!! I had a few problems after I brought my new boy home and Erika was quick and willing to help me out so that the problems could be dealt with and me and my boy would work out and be happy. She went above and beyond to help and I really appreciate her!! I have recommended this rescue to several people and I just can't praise Erika and her volunteers enough for all they do for these horses!!!

Ericka has a done amazing job rescuing American Saddlebreds and Arabian. She has worked diligently rescuing, rehabbing and retraining each horse in order to adopt them into new homes. These horses often arrive into her care severely under weight and spirits broken. Their transformation under her care is simply a miracle. Erika truly loves each horse. Through her efforts each horse which is in her care has blossomed into a horse with full potential to be adopted and provided their new owners with years of enjoyment

I have never rescued a horse from GHF but I have boarded a couple of fresh out of the auction house geldings there full board. After a month our grocery needing, dull looking boys looked like plump, shiney pennies! I have seen first hand the quality of care and feed she gives her horses and boarders (and now rescues) and believe me she goes way above and beyond any other boarding facility or rescue I have come across. She digs in her own pockets when needed without a second thought. Horses are happy at GRUINE HEIDI FARMS!

I have been volunteering here for about a month. I have never seen a more caring barn for rescues. I know of people who do not even take this good of care of their own horses!! All of the horses are just so calm and relaxed. Erika is awesome and takes care of the horses before she takes care of herself. I am honored that I found this place and love! love! love it! Erika and everyone at Grune Heidi Farm work tirelessly to locate, rescue, evaluate, rehabilitate and re-home select horses that were otherwise destined to the horrific method of overcrowded transport to Mexico or Canada for inhumane slaughter. Many of these magnificent animals are pure bred, raised and trained to be show horses, and for one reason or another, weren't considered "show quality". Rather than find loving homes, the unscrupulous trainers and/or owners neglected them or sent them to the "kill pen", never thinking twice. I am privileged to be the proud mom of one of these rescue horses that Grune Heidi Farm saved, and she is magnificent addition to our farm and family. We will treasure her forever. Save a life, and consider adopting a horse from Grune Heidi Farm!

This is an awesome place. I found the location online. Went out to take a look and fell in love with the comfort and care feeling I got from the owner Erica and the horses there. I could let any one of the horses. They were happy and smiley and stick their heads out to welcome you. She has that touch!!! Have you ever heard someone say, after I took my horse to a new place they changed? Well I say this everyday and it is NOT because my horse changed for the worst and became mean and unruly. My horse is a new horse and a different horse. She is very healthy, happy, and smiles all the time everyday. I know my horse would fight me and run and hide if I tried to take her away from there. Erica is truly a horse lover and would starve herself to feed the horses. If you are worried and unsure that money donated to this non-profit place is spent for the horses, you need not worry at all. Go out and take a look for yourself. I know you will have the same feeling as the horeses and I have about it.

A life long passion for helping horses. Here the animals always come first. You can not only see the great care they get but feel how happy all the animals are. That's what matters most.

I started as a prospective volunteer. I came for a private orientation and got to help out. Now location and timing didn't allow me to continue to volunteer, but I have stayed in contact and even networked through it's Director Erika Gilbert.

Here's what I can tell you about her operation. All money she receives for adoptions goes back into rescuing another horse out of the slaughter pens. She works with them, training and conditioning them to be a ready-to-ride-horse with known abilities and issues.

Part of why I couldn't volunteer was the limited time frame available to Erika. She doesn't get home to the farm from her full time employment until 5:30 pm weekdays and does the farm errands (purchasing hay, grain, and anything else needed by the horses) on Saturdays. That gives me a small window to rush off to the opposite side of the county, in rush hour traffic, to try and help... and Sundays, she does everything early - when I'm in church.

But she does have a handful of motivated local teen girls who do come help out regularly.
This lady gives all her free time and gives up any thought of something called a vacation, all purely for the love of these horses and a desire to not just save a life, but to offer them new life in a real forever home.

It's not to be overlooked, what she does for the teen girls who volunteer to clean and ride. Just letting them help gives them so much joy, not to mention keeps them too busy for temptations that could derail their life plans. There was a man like this in my teen life for me. There was a woman equine 4H Leader like this for my daughter when she was a teen. I can tell you first hand how valuable this unadvertised "preemptive rescue effort" is to the girls, their families and the community - particularly considering most other organizations require all volunteers to be over 18 years of age.

Erika has a heart of gold and always has the best interest of her animals at heart! She is an amazing woman, trying to rescue these poor souls that have been mistreated and sent off to auction. We NEED more people like her in this world!! She's helped so many horses already, the horses need her to keep saving them. She is their voice and steps up when no one else will.

Grune Heidi Farms is one of the best horse rescues! They make sure every horse goes to the perfect fitting home. I contacted them about a horse they had a few years ago, Erika was honest with me and told me that horse may not be a good fit for a beginner and then told me about another arab she had named Cheyenne. I feel in love with that mare and now she has taught me so much over the last 4 years and has become my fur BFF! Grune Heidi farm always looks at the horses best interest! Best rescue I know of by far!

Grune Heidi Farm is a Wonderful loving place. Erika specializes in the rescue of American Saddlebreds, Arabians, and their x's. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about all she is doing. She is also providing a safe and happy environment for teenage girls to learn and enjoy horses.

Grune Heidi Farm will always hold a special place in my broken heart. Unknown by me, their recorded owner, this rescue learned by keen radar last year that my three Arabian mares were sold at the horrid horse auction, New Holland Sales. Known by horseman across this country, this place is a top shelf filthy place to "dump" unwanted horses which is what had occurred to them. They did nothing wrong to deserve this decision by someone ELSE who obviously knew nothing about this Breed. Grune Heidi worked very hard to get these mares to safe ground but were not provided the truth about their conditions. A caring person who saw them, did the right thing and informed the authorities! Despite the very hard work and support from YOU,her followers, it was a sad ending for two who were too starved to gone on anymore. The third mare survived, was rehabbed, did well and now has a deserving and loving human in Her life!the offenders walk away with meager fines. I will always be grateful to Grune Heidi Farm. Please know that your hard earned money goes to great things...helping the horses get out of New Holland, the mission of the owner, Erika Gilbert, who has committed to this Mission since a child. I had the honor of meeting Erica in 2012. She had posted an ad needing English tack for rescued Saddlebreds. Like most of the general horse loving public-I had no clue about what was happening to these magnificent creatures. I was fortunate to have owned a Saddlebred Stallion named Supreme's Sunday back in the 1990's- so i was not a stranger to the breed.
Erica had just rescued Freedom and Liberty from New Holland. I donated a like new hunt seat English saddle and made sure to have my checkbook ready on subsequent visits.
In October 2013 Erica (along with her northern connections) made it possible for me to rescue a 6yr old Saddlebred gelding we named Sunny Boy from the New Holland kill lot. The care and expertise that she has in rehabilitating horses is unsurpassed. She has a way with the local youth as well and we all know that if a teenager gets involved with horses, they tend to stay off the streets and out of trouble. God Bless and keep you Erica!
