Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Unknown

Mission: The panepirotic federation of america was founded in 1942 by immigrants from the ancient region of epiros, half of which is in greece and half in albania. The purpose of the group is to help people from the area settle in the u. S. And maintain the culture and traditions of their historic homeland. Another of its goals has been to promote basic human rights for the ethnic greeks living in the part of epiros that is in albania because they constitute a minority in the country that has been denied educational, political, cultural and religious rights (the ethnic greeks in the region are greek orthodox christians while the country's majority is moslem). Among the noted americans whoe parents come from epiors are 1988 presidential candidate michael dukakis, former cia director george tenet, actress rita wilson (wife of tom hanks) and actor and director john cassavetes, whose father, nicholas cassavetes, was on of the founders of the panepirotic federation.
