Results: PDS clients have shown that adults with developmental disabilities can become self-supporting and contributing citizens. Greater awareness and intensive support from PDS has led to more opportunities than ever before for our clients to live, work, and recreate side-by-side with non-disabled people in Marin. Our clients work in fulfilling part time jobs for wonderful local employers like Woodland’s Market, Whole Foods and Rolling Hills Club. They are able to experience the freedom of earning their own money and choosing how to spend it. They take classes at the community college and enjoy free time with their friends at the gym, the movies, and local coffee shops. They are truly included as happy, productive members of society.
Target demographics: Low income adults with developmental disabilities ( autism, Down Syndrome etc.) in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 28 wonderful, deserving, adults with developmental disabilities.
Programs: Pacific Diversified Services supports low income adults with developmental disabilities to lead active lives as productive and accepted members of the community. The mission of PDS is to enable these individuals to work in paid part-time jobs in local businesses through intensive, personalized support and training.The objectives of Pacific Diversified Services are:Development, retention and enhancement of employment for PDS clients who, without job developers and job coaches, would be otherwise unemployable.To increase client independence through individualized instruction, adaptation, and equipment that fosters self-sufficiency, as measured by improvement in each individual's skills.To increase acceptance of clients by their employers and co-workers as measured by the employer's satisfaction surveys.To increase safety and comfort of individuals with disabilities through the use of correct gear and equipment used in activities in the community.To provide safe and reliable transportation to clients on a daily basis to and from their jobs and in the community.For clients to participate in a variety of productive, age-appropriate activities outside of the workplace with the support of PDS staff.To increase the awareness and sensitivity of the non-disabled community regarding developmental disabilities.To increase the self-esteem, comfort and safety of PDS clients, and ensure peace of mind for their families, knowing that their adult family members with disabilities are achieving happiness and a sense of self-worth.
