" the ovarian & breast cancer alliance (o&bca), founded in 2004, is an all-volunteer organization. O&bca is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, supporters, speakers bureau, medical advisory board and board of directors, all committed to the mission. O&bca educates and empowers the general public, women, and health professionals about ovarian and breast cancer so every woman diagnosed will benefit from early detection. Since o&bca's founding, over 80,000 evidence-based educational materials and resources have been distributed to raise awareness and increase knowledge. O&bca educates and increases awareness at nursing conferences, survivor conferences, survivor support groups, community and employer health fairs, and awareness events. O&bca's ovarian and breast cancer programs are led by medical professionals and trained volunteers under the guidance of our medical advisory board. Program educators are ovarian and breast cancer survivors - using survivors to deliver the outreach message presents a unique opportunity to provide tangible proof of survivorship and replace fear with fact. Our annual teal & toe walk for ovarian cancer awareness supports our mission by raising awareness of ovarian cancer, honoring survivors, and offering hope. Dedicated to providing education and awareness for our underserved communities, culturally sensitive, multilingual awareness materials have been translated into spanish, chinese, vietnamese, tagalog, and korean languages. O&bca has established collaborations with stakeholders to further our mission and achieve goals greater than could be achieved on our own. Recognizing the vital role health professionals play in symptom recognition and early diagnosis, o&bca has partnered with the ovarian cancer research fund alliance over the past 12 years, facilitating the national program, "survivors teaching students: saving women's lives(r) in washington state. The program brings ovarian cancer survivors into the classroom to educate healthcare students in the region's nursing schools, nurse practitioner programs, naturopathic university, and medical school. Early symptom recognition, identifying women at elevated risk, and prompt medical evaluation can help women reduce their risk and improve their chance for survival.
