This Veteran organization empowers Veterans through the use of Surf Therapy and is open to Active Duty as well. As a participant, we spoke openly about our personal military experiences; one had a loss of limb, all but one of us had lost an organ (or more) and suffered from PTSD. Having a community to talk to about our shared experiences was really amazing. What truly resonated with me after a morning of learning to get up on a wake surf board was how our focus had changed from our military experiences to hearing our successes and failures learning to wake surf. Moreover, watching as each of us attempted to get up on the board, the support we showered on one another. It was truly amazing. Did I master the board? No. Will I? Yes. Did I meet and continue to have dialogue with my veteran brothers and sisters. You bet! What an awesome VSO!
