The orthocarolina research institute hosts an educational cme (continuing medical education) symposium for 350-400 orthopedic providers and allied health care professionals each year known as oscar miller day. This symposium is over 35 years old, is marketed to the south eastern us and rotates topics annually.
operation walk carolinas is a joint effort between teams at orthocarolina, carolinas healthcare and novant health. This program provides free surgical treatment to patients in developing countries and education for in-country orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques for diseases of the hip and knee joints. During 2017, a group was sent to cuba to provide surgical treatments to under-privileged patients.
