Mission: Orion Foundation was founded in 1994 to provide a steady stream of long-term support to not-for-profit organizations which help people find and maintain permanent employment, learn and practice basic work habits, attitudes and behavior required by employers, achieve basic levels of reading, writing and math skills needed to hold a traditional job, upgrade their skills to handle new technologies, overcome physical, mental,legal, emotional or socioeconomic obstacles to employment, get off welfare, earn wages, pay taxes and set a positive example for their children and neighbors, and develop vocational/apprenticeship-type skills when a four-year college education is not an alternative.
