I am both a volunteer and Board Member for The Superhero Project. I've been working with this group since the beginning and hope to continue working with them for years to come.
It's not often that an organization comes along that can create a life-changing gift for a child. Something tangible. Something inspirational. A true vision of who they are. But that's what The Superhero Project does. Working with artists to help envision a child's superhero alter-ego.
And it's not just the kids or their families that benefit. The experience for me as an artist has been amazing. Knowing that something I made was able to bring so much joy to a child in need has been its own reward — better than any trophy or ribbon.
The mission of The Superhero Project is exactly what the world needs right now: Joy.
You need only view one of the more than 1,100 power posters (www.superherokids.com) or read one of the superhero origin stories (insta: thesuperherokid) to experience the absolute beauty and meaning that The Superhero Project achieves – creating one character at a time.
The organization provides a personalized experience for children with difficult medical diagnoses. Through the healing power of art, imagery and representation, the kids and their families receive a one-of-a-kind portrait that brings to life their true inner selves – and the magical superpowers that only they can claim as their own. Thanks to a dedicated team of talented artists who volunteer their time, SHP provides this amazing experience free of charge to all families. All are invited to follow SHP on social media, call to schedule an interview, refer an artist, or make a donation of any amount.
