Opportunity for Independence (OFI) has provided individualized services to adults with developmental disabilities in Marin County since 1991. Adults with developmental disabilities want the same things any adult wants—the ability to live and work safely, comfortably, and, most importantly, independently in the community. OFI gives them an opportunity to do that by providing five different programs that have a common goal—independence. OFI’s programs are a testament to the organization’s mission, which is to enrich the lives of adults with developmental disabilities by partnering with them to make informed choices, lead full and independent lives, become the people they wish to become, and do the things they wish to do.

Causes: Developmentally Disabled Centers, Disabilities, Human Services
Mission: Enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental and other cognitive disabilities by developing and providing essential and individualized programs throughout marin county.
Programs: Supported living services provides an independent setting for thirteen adults with developmental and other disabilities to live in their own homes and receive training and support from our staff to lead dignified, meaningful lives.
new opportunities for vocational advancement (nova) offers training and behavioral support for twenty-five adults, assisting them in gaining daily integration into our community,job readiness skills and working to remove barriers to employment.
supported training for employment placement (step) provides opportunities for twenty-five adults to learn job and behavior management skills. This program serves individuals who are motivated to work, providing services at no cost to the employer.
