Mission: Openoceans global, was founded in november 2007 and is dedicated to resolving ocean-related public policy issues and conflicts by building and aligning communities around action-oriented projects. The organization is non-partisan and non-political and does not focus on advocacy, but rather on working with communities of interest to gather information, data, energy, funding and options that can be jointly implemented for mutual benefit. Openoceans global works on local and regional ocean-related issues, but has a long-term goal of building an international ocean community to aggregate the worlds ocean data and creatively present it online using geographical information system (gis) technology and other emerging visualization technologies.
Programs: Connecting the ocean community to build a gis-based, web infrastructure designed to bring together ocean data, to recognize exemplary sources of ocean information, to visualize ocean processes, to help resolve ocean policy questions and disputes and to better understand ocean processes.
