Mission: Ona's mission is inspiring innovation and excellence among digital journalists to better serve the public. Ona is a leader in the rapidly changing world of journalism; a catalyst for innovation in story-telling across all platforms; a resource for journalists seeking guidance and growth, and a champion of best practices through training, awards and community outreach.
Programs: Conference: ona's three-day annual conference provided hands-on, day-long workshops,noted speakers, expert panels, visits to technology and media companies, and sessions and training on digital issues to more than 1,900 attendees in september 2014. The fully-funded student newsroom gave 20 undergraduate journalism majors exposure to media leaders and a chance to cover breaking news with emerging tools. Ona's hbcu fellowships offered free conference attendance and digital trainning to a diverse field of students. The career summit and job fair offered nearly 200 job seekers access to 20 recruiters from major media and technology companies and training in new media during a full day of sessions. And the midway, an interactive space for collaboration and innovation, connected news start-ups, nonprofits, media organizations and academics with technology companies, investors and funders.
training and professional development: ona provides free training programs in emerging technology and new media, including the gannett foundation-funded ona camps, which travel to cities across the united states; funding and expertise to help members host regional, national, and international events, ranging from social gatherings to intensive training sessions;partnerships with technology and journalism organizations that bring advanced multimedia,social networking and other digital skills to new and veteran journalists; focused workshops on digital "big picture" themes, like mobile and social media, using design thinking with teams; leadership breakfasts that provide executives with a forum for networking and sharing challenges and solutions; the filing of amicus briefs in court cases important to digital journalists and education and public stands on issues and legislation impacting digital media.

Ona provides social media networking to specific demographics through its growing facebook, twitter and linkedin groups; offers frequent member surveys on online issues, and houses free and discounted access to outside webinars, seminars and conferences and free member access to the latest reports, studies and research on digital journalism issues.
