Mission: One mind is devoted to large-scale research on all diseases of the brain, which is unique in the marketplace. Unlike other major disease areas, such as cancer and heart disease, there is not an umbrella organization for the brain. One mind is in a strong position to move into that role. One mind has several advantages strong leadership, an established position in the scientific community as an advocate for revolutionizing collaboration, research and funding for mental illness and brain injury, and a demonstrated ability to convene diverse and key participants from science, government, and advocacy. Despite these, our greatest challenges today are securing the collaboration of governmental, corporate, scientific, and philanthropic communities in support of our open science principles, and fundraising. There is intense competition for funding; and currently, most goes to the research that is done in silos where data sharing is not mandated.
Programs: Gemini a pilot program established to demonstrate that the support of large research studies for diseases and injuries of the brain, in concert with one mind's open science principles; will greatly accelerate the discovery of better diagnostics, treatments, and someday, cures. Our inaugural supported projects, track-tbi and center-tbi, are clinical studies for traumatic brain injury (tbi) and post-traumatic stress (pts), whose databases will be available to all researchers and of particular value to those researching diseases and injuries sharing similar biological characteristics. These projects will serve as proof of our open science principles, and establish the framework for additional one mind partnerships in other brain diseases.
one mind hosts an annual summit to foster collaboration, educate the industry about the importance of open-science, discuss barriers to sharing research and how to tackle these issues. The summit is held in may in washington dc. A white paper is produced from the summit proceedings.
