Mission: The omaha conservatory of music is a non-profit school that builds musical community through education and performance to enrich lives.
Programs: The omaha conservatory of music offers private lesson music instruction in violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, voice, percussion, woodwinds, brass, composition, and music theory. With over 35 artist-faculty and approximately 700 students, the conservatory offers 40 private lessons per year, alongside opportunities for group classes, ensembles, and performance opportunities.
string sprouts was founded in 2013 by the omaha conservatory of music. This revolutionary music education program, funded by generous individuals, foundations, and grants, aims to change the lives of children in underserved areas by providing them with high-quality violin, viola and cello instruction at no cost to caregivers. With a carefully constructed curriculum, excellent educators, and continuous caregiver involvement over the course of five years, young sprouts exercise both discipline and creativity. Early childhood music education has been shown to:-improve classroom behavior-extend attention span-strengthen motor skills and hand-eye coordination-give kids a jump-start on academic subjects, including math, language, and even science.
since august 2011, every tuesday when school is in session, conservatory voice artist-faculty member cody jorgensen has made the hour-and-a-half drive from omaha to the winnebago reservation near sioux city, bringing high-quality music classes to the students of st. Augustine mission school, the reservation's only private grade school. This program:-instills an appreciation of music through performance-teaches students how to read & write music-fills a much needed arts education gap in an underserved community-in subsequent years, the conservatory expanded the program to include recorder and guitar lessons, adding a second ocm artist-faculty member, andrew stickman, as well as providing instruments.
