Mission: The omaha community playhouse is a performing arts organization that enhances quality of life through live theatre, professional touring and arts education. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of audiences and participants through entertainment, thought-provoking stories and first-hand involvement.
Programs: The omaha community playhouse (ocp) has proudly provided the greater omaha community with high-quality educational and entertainment opportunities since 1924. The largest community theater in the nation in terms of facility size, number of season productions, subscriber base and staff (among other factors), ocp annually serves more than 140,000 people. Ocp's season includes productions of 10 shows, as well as the presenation of other special events. Productions include musicals, comedies and dramas and provide the opportunity for entertainment, education and volunteerism. Ocp's audience base includes primarily patrons from nebraska and iowa but also 20 other states.
the touring wing of ocp, nebraska theatre caravan (ntc), currently produces a national tour of the holiday classic "a christmas carol". Each year approximately 15 states are on the schedule and throughout ntc productions' history, performances have occurred in every state, except hawaii. These tours are known throughout the country as a must-see holiday tradition and provide entertainment and educational opportunities in the communities they visit. Currently nebraska theater caravan is also exploring additional touring productions and possibilities.
ocp's education and outreach efforts, through the newly named henry fonda theatre academy, include a variety of classes and workshops onsite at ocp and at multiple schools throughout the city; they are available on-demand for schools, organizations and other nonprofits. Ocp is also proud to collaborate with metropolitan community college and the u. S. Department of labor to provide the theatre technology apprenticeship program (ttap). This is a unique school-to-work program that trains students for a career in technical theatre or the entertainment field. Ocp believes in providing affordable educational and outreach opportunities for students of all ages.
