Causes: Environment, Parks & Playgrounds
Mission: To preserve olmsted parks and to advance olmsted principles and the legacy of irreplaceable parks and landscapes that revitalize communities and enrich people's lives.
Programs: Research and education - identifying and analyzing primary sources and historical documents of the work of the olmsted firm; preparing digital material and paper publications that provide analysis and commentary of these documents; helping facilitate efforts to have these documents available to the general public through printed and digital media so as to encourage and support local and national preservation efforts. Current efforts include administrative support in completion of the 12 volume set of the papers of frederick law olmsted; providing access to digital versions of the papers and the master list of design projects of the olmsted firm; enhancing content of the olmsted online. outreach and engagement - supporting and undertaking activities intended to broaden public access and understanding of the landscape architectural and land use planning work of the olmsted firm and the role of olmsted designed landscapes in contemporary land use planning; historic landscape protection and preservation, and community building. Activities include symposia, seminars, workshops, conferences and media arts and are targeted to particular audiences, including children, community organizations, professional organizations, park advocacy groups and land and park conservancies.
advocacy and support - assisting local groups and organizations in developing strategies for addressing issues surrounding olmsted-designed landscapes in their communities. This program is prompted on an as-needed basis, varies greatly year to year and is highly dependent on volunteer support.
