On my way to work I would drive by the OAKS and could never envision myself stepping a foot in the place at that time. Well, now that I am retired I have stepped both feet in the place and it is really a great resource for seniors who would like something to do. They are very accommodating to quilters as well as to seniors who are interested in other activities.

Older Americans of Knox, Inc., aka OAKS, is a senior center whose motto is "SENIORS HELPING SENIORS." It is housed in the former Farnham Grade School, and has been of service to seniors since 1980. OAKS has never received any government funds of any kind and has managed to be self supporting since inception through the efforts of members. There is a weekly "pot luck," activities such as card playing, crafts, jigsaw puzzles and games. Craft items, including many quilts, are available for sale, along with a "flea market" of donated items. Fundraiser luncheons are held periodically, among the best is the homemade chicken and noodles during Galesburg's Railroad Days.
