We rescued our dogs from here many years ago. Kim goes out of her way to make sure a dog will be a good fit for your family. She taught us some basic puppy care as well. Although we moved to a different state, we continue to donate when we are able.
Kim has a fantastic giving heart that she shares with the world through saving hundreds of dogs every year. We have three rescues from this group and they are all wonderful loving spirits made possible by this life saving group. Thank you xxx
The three dogs living with us now are all from this rescue. We have adopted others that have moved out with our grown kids. The dogs are known by the volunteers at the rescue so they can be paired well with prospective families.
Dogs at the rescue roam free in fenced enclosures rather than having to be caged. This means their interaction with other animals can be observed which, again, results in better placements.
Commitment to the animals is paramount at this rescue. Sometimes that results in unhappy people (who don't get a dog unsuited for their home) but that's okay. OKSave a Dog exists solely to save dogs and improve their lives. They are stellar at achieving that mission.
They have been around a long time and have helped countless dogs move on from tragic circumstances.
We had been looking to add two large breed dogs to our family when I saw the most gorgeous puppy on the FB page of our photography teacher. She was fostering this little handsome guy and four of his sisters. We really wanted brothers but we decided to check this guy out anyways. He was about 9 weeks old; a Great Pyranees/Healer mix. When we went to meet him, we learned he was one of eleven pups and had brothers at the OKSAD location. We ended up bringing Zeus home and going back for Apollo the next day. Zeus is dominant Pyranees and is the sweetest guy. His brother, Apollo, is actually dominant Labrador and he is the friendliest, happiest dog I have ever met.
What we really liked about OKSAD is they are really particular about to whom they adopt the dogs. The application form is thorough and the fees are reasonable (considering the dogs are spayed/neutered, chipped and up-to-date on all shots) but high enough to reflect the seriousness of the decision you are about to make. We truly appreciate this about OKSAD as it reflects their high standards and the passion and love they have for these animals.
We have been blessed by OKSAD and our two boys for over 2 1/2 years now and we couldn’t be happier or love these boys more.
My mother had lost her dog to cancer, was living alone on her farm and giving up. We saw Dixie on their website, my mother fell in love. We filled out their application and explained our situation. When we went to pick up Dixie my mother was thrilled, due to my mom’s age I also signed the paperwork. Sadly mom went into a nursing home seven months after adopting Dixie, and I happily brought her into my home. One of the best things I ever did. She is a dream, her name is still Dixie and she is adored and loved! Thanks to Ok Save A Dog, you are great!
This is a love story between an abused 5 year old female German Shepherd and an entire family that adopted her! My 82 year old mother lost her companion dog to cancer, still lived at home, was still physically able and fit, had raised GS for 30+ years and had a GS most of her life and was lost after CK died. I saw Dixie on the OK Save A Dog website and had been watching her for about a month or so. I got sick at my stomach every time they had an adoption event worried that someone would take Dixie. If they took her I would never see her or have an opportunity to adopt her. When CK passed away I showed mom pics of Dixie again, she was worried they wouldn’t consider her due to her age.
I wrote to them, explained my mom’s situation, that she had years of experience with GS and that I felt with Dixie’s timidity, mom would be perfect for her and Dixie would be perfect for mom. I told them about mom’s place, her pens, fenced backyard, that Dixie would be indoors with mom, that we go to mom’s if not every day every other day. They agreed to see them together and see how mom handled Dixie.
Prague Oklahoma seemed like Prague Russia in distance to mother, we just couldn’t get there quick enough for her. They couldn’t bring Dixie out quick enough, she couldn’t get her hands on her quick enough, sign paperwork and load her. Mom had fallen in love at first glimpse of Ms Dixie, she also fell for a gorgeous solid black GS they had on sight at the time they called Django. She wanted both and Django had a squeak toy he was using to get our attention. He was a beautiful boy. But Dixie and Django apparently didn’t like each other.
The only concern was mom’s age and what would happen if something happened to mom? I signed all the adoption paperwork with mom, in case anything happened to mom, I would take Dixie. I would have adopted Dixie myself but I had an 8 year old male GS myself and Dixie apparently didn’t like males.
Sadly my mother had to move into assisted living, I lost my 8 year old GS to an autoimmune issue all in a matter of a month. Dixie moved home with me, fell in love with my son and has begun her new life with my family. She is very timid, but each day try’s something new. She is the sweetest gentlest dog I have ever been around and I cannot believe that someone could have done to her what was done!
I thank God every day that she wound up with OK Save A Dog And is recovering. I also cannot ever express enough gratitude to them for allowing my mother one last German Shepherd and trusting her to love and care for her. Ms Dixie and my mom were quiet the pair and mother was very content and comfortable. Much heartfelt appreciation to a wonderful rescue, who not only cares for the animals but looks after the people adopting to make sure they make 4ever matches!
The first pic shows Miss Dixie hiding in her hidey hole, she hates storms. The camo beanbag in the background is her fav sleeping spot if she is in the hidey hole (interior storage room) for very long. The second pic is her at mom’s, my drandson and mom are brushing her, she loved that, both mom and Dixie.
I have gotten two wonderful pets thru OKSAD! My Lulu has over 300 hundred ticks on her when OKSAD got her & they were wonderful in taking the time to get all the ticks off! And my Goji has been the best dog, just a wonderful love. OKSAD is in rural Oklahoma where there is no money & very few resources and they just get it done!
We adopted Willow and Kobe (name changed to Dobby) about a year and a half ago. We drove an hour and a half to pick up Dobby and my husband fell in love with Willow so we brought them both home and they have become part of our family. The application is very thorough. Kim really goes out of her way to make sure the dogs are given a good, loving home. I am grateful to OK Save a Dog for filling the hole in our hearts we didn’t even know we had!
These two women dedicate their lives to savings animals, PERIOD! I have adopted several dogs from them that otherwise would have spent their last few days in a cold pound all alone. Instead they were saved (when everyone else gave up on them) by Kim & Sunshine. & then my family was blessed to adopt them
This rescue group is one of the most passionate & selfless of its kind. We have rescued 5 dogs total from them (so far) If OKSAD had not stepped in, who knows what would have happened to our now four legged family members. I have been a volunteer and these people don't get the recognition they deserve.
I have adopted from OKSAD twice and fostered for them over 250 times (lots of puppies!) within the last decade. I owe them my soulmate in dog form and they restore my faith in humanity every single day. With two ladies running the entire organization, I am constantly in awe of their focus in just flat out getting dogs into their forever homes and ignoring the worst in humanity while doing so. It’s easy to get discouraged in dog rescue, but Kim has been at this 30+ years and I can’t even begin to guess how many dog AND human lives she and Sunshine have touched. Including mine in the most poignant way possible.
Kim & Sunshine are amazing! Our family is blessed to have 2 oksad dogs! We love them with all our hearts & couldn’t imagine our lives without them. Keep up the awesome work ladies ❤️
OK SAVE A DOG is amazing! I adopted my sweet chihuahua Khaleesi from here in March 2014. I don't know what I would do without her. The adoption process was fairly easy I filled out the application and answered a few additional questions and a few days later I drove to Oklahoma and picked her up. The adoption fees are very reasonable since she came with all of her vaccinations and had just been spayed.
One of the best rescues out there! Hard working women with big hearts ♥️. I am so grateful for my sweet Molly Sue (Patches).
OK Save a Dog is one of the best rescues in the state. They don't just try to move dogs out to homes, they work with the prospective families to find the best fit between dogs and people. They work tirelessly, night and day....without a break, taking money from their own pockets to feed and provide medical care for these orphan animals. You can do no better than to support this great group. I've adopted thru them as well as supported them with financial help.
I came all the way from South Florida to adopt my Lili aka: mama from Ok Save A Dog. They are real people doing a lot of good for so many hurting dogs etc..
I adopted a young lab mix 18months ago from ok save a dog. They are the real deal. Keeping the dog's best interest first. I came all the way from
South Florida to get her. It's the best thing I ever did. Thank you to the team that works so hard to keep these dogs safe. Ok Save A Dog, your good people..
I have 3 Ok Save A Dog adoptions, they are wonderful to work with and have the GREATEST Dogs. All 3 were well veted, fixed, and ready for life.
I have 3 dogs from OK Save a Dog, they are wonderful caring people that work to make sure that the dog fits the person. I love working with them and will adopt again in the future.
Thank You so much for taking the time to help us out.
I called looking for a small dog and they had a litter of Chihuahuas and when I drove from Tulsa to OKC they had one left. They knew I was coming and saved him for me. I love my dog.
This organization tirelessly helps dogs in need. They make sure the dogs go to good homes, they work day & night, and many times are sorely underfunded. Some of the nicest people! I will adopt from them again when mine cross the rainbow bridge. This group is very deserving of receiving accolades as a great non-profit!
My husband and I knew we wanted to adopt a dog after getting married. What we didn't know is that we would fall absolutely in love with not one, but TWO dogs at OK Save A Dog! We stopped by one of their adoption events after lunch and saw two precious brothers napping together. They were well taken care of, sweet boys, and we knew we couldn't separate them. Billy and Bob turned into Mumford and Rockwell! Three years later, and our boys are like children to us! They are gentle and cuddly, and love a good belly rub! If it wasn't for OK Save A Dog, we would never have found our sweet littles pups! We still take our boys by their local adoption events to say hello and tell them how much we truly appreciate their work! Thank you, OK Save A Dog!
I adopted a little Bichon named Izzy about 5 years ago. She was a love from the beginning. Very well behaved. She was fully vetted and was the perfect fit in my home. She is the Queen in my house. I would adopt again in a heartbeat.
I adopted my pup Walker from OK Save a Dog 4.5 years ago. They are an incredible organization that truly cares for their animals and their long term wellbeing.
All of my pets have come from OKSaveaDog! They have an uncanny ability to pair the perfect pet in your family!
10/10 would reccomend
We have adopted 3 dogs from OKSAD. They take the best care of their dogs and really get to know their personalities so they can make the best matches. The dogs are socialized and friendly, they don't crate their dogs but let them run and play. You can find all breeds and ages at OKSAD, they don't discriminate but save as many dogs as they can. We will always adopt from OKSAD.
The 2 woman that run this rescue are amazing, caring women! They go above and beyond to help the fur babies. Never turn a baby away and always do what's best for them! Definitely would recommend adopting from them!
We adopted our Lexi 10 years ago. In these past 10 years I have pointed people in the direction of this wonderful organization and have never heard a bad word about them. The property they keep is immaculate and all who pass through are well cared for and loved.
We adopted our princess from OK Save A Dog 12 years ago and couldn't be happier that Kim and team were able to rescue her so we could apply and adopt. Consistently have the best interest of the animal above all!
OK Save A Dog brought my bouncy ball of energy, Londynne into my life. Finding a rescue that really cares about their dogs and practices thoughtfulness when it comes to selecting their furever homes made me a fast fan of OK Save A Dog! When it is time for my next new family member, I will not hesitate to pick them from the caring hands of this rescue!
Loving kind compassionate I rescue too with a different group and have been at big events with these folks
I have two wonderful rescue pups from OK Save A Dog. Fantastic! I recommend them to anyone who asks me.
We are so happy we found our fur baby through OK Save a Dog! They were so quick to respond to my questions and emails and so friendly when we met in person. They truly love what they do and take the best of care of all the pups.
This rescue does SO much with SO little! A small operation but its heart is solid gold. My sister, my nephew, one of my best friends, and my husband and I have all adopted dogs from OKSAD. We are now regular donors. We wish we could do more, but help out with extra as needed. Mike and I will eventually be adopting another dog, and we will trust OKSAD to help us find the perfect match! This is our little Buddy, courtesy of OKSAD!
OMG, where to start . . . I found my latest pup at OK Save a Dog. I am so thankful that my application was accepted and I got to adopt Buddy (formerly Toby). This rescue does so much with so little--only two people working to save as many dogs and puppies as possible. I know their resources are stretched at times. They vet their dogs, as well as their applicants, which is so encouraging to me. I know that when they send a dog to a home, that home has been fully investigated. Great people, great dogs, great organization! My whole family has adopted dogs from OKSAD and I will soon be looking for another one from them!
We adopted our sweet Gus(Leo) from Save a Dog. He is honestly the sweetest dog and is so smart. He was so well taken care of and since he came to them with his mom as a very young puppy it is very evident the work they put into the puppies and dogs they get. He was well socialized and very confident which is not the case for a lot of puppies who have to grow up in a rescue environment. Also the rescue event we attended was awesome...you can tell the difference between them and other rescues and shelters the moment you walk up...the dogs are all calm and content to be in their crates. There was little to no barking. Anyone who has ever attended any adoption event understands what I mean. We love our Save A Dog pup!!
Love them. Amazing work. Our punky is just the best. Thank you
Brenda who was a white schnausser who we adopted from Ok. Save a dog had been an abused breeder dog before Kim got her. I have had her and spoiled and loved her for the last 9 years. She crossed the rainbow bridge this morning. Thank you for helping her find love and happiness for these years....sad but grateful to have had her.
We have adopted three of our dogs from Ok Save A Dog. Without their tireless efforts to do the hard work of rescuing, many people like us would not have our fur babies!! Thank you for all you do.
OK Save a Dog is a wonderful rescue. I adopted Hamilton from them 10 years ago. He is now a registered therapy dog who works daily at our elementary school making children smile!
Thank You so much for taking the time to help us out.
I can’t say enough good things about OK Save a Dog. They came highly recommended by our granddaughter, who got her dog from them a few years back. We saw their posting on a Thursday, filled out an application Friday morning, and had an appointment to meet “Willow” at their beautifully maintained facility at noon on Saturday. It was love at first sight. Despite her previous circumstances, she was beautifully groomed, had received all her vaccinations, and was spayed and micro-chipped. It was abundantly clear that their primary concern was for the animal and making certain she was going to a proper home.
Thank You so much for taking the time to help us out.
Kim and Sunshine are fantastic. You can tell they really care about what they do and are always willing to go above and beyond. I’ve had my rescue pup for close to three years now and wouldn’t trade him for the world.
In 2007 two weeks after my dog died, I started looking on the Internet at other dogs. I saw a photograph of one I liked at OK Save A Dog. I emailed and Ms. Bowers answered me promptly and told me some information on the dog, then gave me directions on how to find them. I went out to Prague, met her, met the dog and fell in love. The dog had no only been abandoned, but had been badly abused and OK Save A Dog took care of him and made him able to trust again. That was the 7th of March 2007, he is now about 13 years old and is my best friend. I am partially disabled, live alone except for Robbie (the dog) who is my best friend and constant companion and has made the last 11 1/2 years joyful.
An amazing rescue! Saving dogs daily. Constantly helping other rescues. True blessing to have their help.
I adopted a little chiweenie named lilly and she has been such a blessing. The nonprofit organization is amazing and always there for you. They truly believe in helping animals find forever homes and getting them well before adopted.
I thought about getting new member to our family for a long time but the time was never quite right. One day while at work I found OK Save a Dog online and they had a sweet little dog the named Patches. I completed the application and was so excited I was approved that I left work and took the 1 hour drive the same day to pick her up. The process was so easy and Kim quickly responded to my emails. I am so grateful to OK Save a Dog and to Kim and Sunshine for dedicating their lives to the dogs, especially my sweet Molly. I can’t imagine her not in our lives.
I got my "look-a-like" dog from OKSAD 2-27-2014. The ladies were very helpful with information and advice for caring for my new adoption. We have been inseparable ever since. I signed up for the OKSAD mailing list at that time and I have seen the pictures of some of the severely damaged dogs that these folks have rescued and nursed back to health. And I've read the testimonials from the wonderful folks that have adopted from them. We all appreciate the dedication and devotion and the endless hours that these folks give for our best friends.
I adopted my sweet Sophie a little over a year ago from Ok Save a Dog. I was so impressed with their screening process and making sure the dog would be well cared for in their new home. I definitely recommend them to anyone who is wanting to rescue a pet.
OK Save A Dog is great! Believe me when I say great I mean GREAT! Like a free oil change or two when you buy a new truck great. All greatness aside, this group of dedicated people selflessly labor for the good of animals that cannot do so on their own, and provide loving care for animals and their new companions all over the US and sometimes abroad.
Love OKSAD! They do great work and help so many animals. Adopted my Moxy from them almost 5 years ago.
This is an awesome rescue. They really care about the animals and finding them a good home. We recently adopted two of their dogs and love our new babies so much!
My family has adopted 3 dogs from OK Save A Dog! They are a wonderful organization. When we got the dogs they were healthy, clean, and well taken care of. Our vet was very impressed with their initial care and that they had immunization records provided. And they were already microchipped! Great rescue and great folks!
I have adopted three dogs through OKSAD. I love them. Sunshine and Kim are some of the best people I have ever met and they truly care about the dogs they work with and their adopters.
Three years ago we adopted an absolutely perfect terrier mix. She was a horder dog and so shy that if we sneezed she would run and hide. Now she is the most personable dog I have ever met. If you sneeze she runs to check on you and give kisses, or boop your nose with a little paw.
So a earlier this year when we started looking for another baby to play with her, we knew exactly where to go. Sunshine is amazing and one of the greatest people have ever met.
What great work you do. Thank you for saving and loving these beautiful animals. Thank you for responding to my questions and I will keep watching and hope to adopt from you!!
We have known Kim for over 10 years. In that time we have had blessing of adopting 2 dogs from them. Everyone is so caring and compassionate. Thank you for saving our babies
Ok Save A Dog does such fantastic work. Diligent in saving and placing these babies. Truly angels. We have the love of our life from them!
Ok Save A Dog is the best! I adopted my baby girl, Dixie in 2013. They truly care about their dogs and adopters. They’re hardworking, tireless and singleminded about finding homes for their dogs. I also volunteered with them a couple of times. Sunshine and Kim are great people, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a dog into their home.
We adopted our first fur baby at OK Save A Dog in 2011. They were very helpful trying to find the right fit for our family. Princess has been a blessing to our family and I know they are entirely dedicated to save dogs and find them the right home.
Such dedication and selflessness the dogs are loved while waiting and fully vetted. All rescues should learn from this dedicated team who rescue for the dogs.
OK Save A Dog is a wonderful, very caring rescue. They are so kind to the animals in their care, and treat them as they should be treated. The rescue is extremely clean, with lots of room for the dogs to run and play. The dogs are not kept in cages. They are socialized and given every opportunity to find a loving home. They screen prospective owners thoroughly and even recommend pets that would be the best fit. I have adopted three dogs from OK Save A Dog, and all three were healthy, immunized, neutered, and socialized before they left the rescue. Without hesitation, I recommend OK Save A Dog to anyone who wants to adopt a rescue!
This rescue is absolutely the best. They operate honestly, ethically, and I love that the animals who aren't adopted still have a furever home......right there with Kim and Sunshine. I've adopted 7 dogs from them, even though I'm a couple states away. But I can trust their dogs are healthy, socialized, and already loved, even before the come to me. Five of my current six are thanks to their loving work.
Rock on, OK Save A Dog!!!!
We adopted Amos from OK Save a Dog in April of 2014. It was a battle, but it was clear to me that Kim really cares about the homes that her dogs go to and the likely hood that the home will be a forever home. Put in the effort, show that you care and are willing to be the right family for the dog that you are interested in. If you aren't approved, take it as constructive criticism to revaluate your home/family for the type of dog you want to adopt. These women are doing amazing work to protect and care for so many animals that are just thrown away. So proud to support them in their mission!
I was a volunteer for OKSAD for about 18 months (give or take a couple of months) while I lived in Oklahoma City. The organization is is without a doubt one of the most caring organizations around and the placement of their animals with the correct home is absolutely paramount. That is what led me to volunteer with them over others. The amount of work that goes into placing dogs with the right home is massive and is certainly not easy. Other places drop prices and don't do their research and hope for the best. This place ensures that whatever decision is made, is made for the benefit of the animal. The face or the organization, Sunshine, is perhaps one of the nicest and sweetest people you could ever hope to meet and we are still friends even after I moved to Florida. Her drive to help these animals in need is second to no ones. You would do well to volunteer with, donate money/supplies, or adopt from OKSAD.
We TOTALLY love OK Save A Dog Society !! Eleven years ago we adopted 2 of our 3 dogs from them (the other one we found LOL). We have helped out at a few adoption events, have donated money, blankets and other supplies when we can, but the main way we offer our service to them is to act as Volunteer transport drivers. When dogs need to find their way to Prague, OK, we proudly offer our car, our gasoline and our time. We know that it takes all of us doing our part in order to help Kim and Sunshine find forever homes for these innocent dogs. We love our dogs and can't imagine our lives without them. We owe Kim and Sunshine a debt of gratitude for saving our dogs when they were helpless and homeless. We will always feel a special connection to them and treasure our roles in the huge, loving family that is known as OK Save A Dog Society. We love OKSAD !!!
Kim & Sunshine are true angels here on earth! They have helped me and my small Rescue save so many lives. They don’t pick and choose, they have helped me save sick/injured dogs, puppies with no momma, seniors, all lives matter to them. I absolutely love working with these 2 ladies and visiting with them when I transport there. This by far is the best Rescue I have worked with in the 5 years I been rescuing! I can never thank them enough for all they have done for me and my rescue!
This rescue is one of the very few who take the time to socialize each of the dogs. They screen each adopter and work to find the right match to maximize success. The dogs are fully medically vetted including micro chips. They are the best.
Great charity with great dogs. I have fostered for them and adopted two. They are loving, caring people. The dogs are all healthy when available for adoption with shots, de-wormed, heart worm checked and have microchips.
Kim and sunshine put their heart and soul into saving animals!
They pour their hearts into each and every animal they find and show these poor babies love and what it feels like to have a safe place.
