Review for OK Save A Dog, Prague, OK, USA
My mother had lost her dog to cancer, was living alone on her farm and giving up. We saw Dixie on their website, my mother fell in love. We filled out their application and explained our situation. When we went to pick up Dixie my mother was thrilled, due to my mom’s age I also signed the paperwork. Sadly mom went into a nursing home seven months after adopting Dixie, and I happily brought her into my home. One of the best things I ever did. She is a dream, her name is still Dixie and she is adored and loved! Thanks to Ok Save A Dog, you are great!
Review for OK Save A Dog, Prague, OK, USA
This is a love story between an abused 5 year old female German Shepherd and an entire family that adopted her! My 82 year old mother lost her companion dog to cancer, still lived at home, was still physically able and fit, had raised GS for 30+ years and had a GS most of her life and was lost after CK died. I saw Dixie on the OK Save A Dog website and had been watching her for about a month or so. I got sick at my stomach every time they had an adoption event worried that someone would take Dixie. If they took her I would never see her or have an opportunity to adopt her. When CK passed away I showed mom pics of Dixie again, she was worried they wouldn’t consider her due to her age.
I wrote to them, explained my mom’s situation, that she had years of experience with GS and that I felt with Dixie’s timidity, mom would be perfect for her and Dixie would be perfect for mom. I told them about mom’s place, her pens, fenced backyard, that Dixie would be indoors with mom, that we go to mom’s if not every day every other day. They agreed to see them together and see how mom handled Dixie.
Prague Oklahoma seemed like Prague Russia in distance to mother, we just couldn’t get there quick enough for her. They couldn’t bring Dixie out quick enough, she couldn’t get her hands on her quick enough, sign paperwork and load her. Mom had fallen in love at first glimpse of Ms Dixie, she also fell for a gorgeous solid black GS they had on sight at the time they called Django. She wanted both and Django had a squeak toy he was using to get our attention. He was a beautiful boy. But Dixie and Django apparently didn’t like each other.
The only concern was mom’s age and what would happen if something happened to mom? I signed all the adoption paperwork with mom, in case anything happened to mom, I would take Dixie. I would have adopted Dixie myself but I had an 8 year old male GS myself and Dixie apparently didn’t like males.
Sadly my mother had to move into assisted living, I lost my 8 year old GS to an autoimmune issue all in a matter of a month. Dixie moved home with me, fell in love with my son and has begun her new life with my family. She is very timid, but each day try’s something new. She is the sweetest gentlest dog I have ever been around and I cannot believe that someone could have done to her what was done!
I thank God every day that she wound up with OK Save A Dog And is recovering. I also cannot ever express enough gratitude to them for allowing my mother one last German Shepherd and trusting her to love and care for her. Ms Dixie and my mom were quiet the pair and mother was very content and comfortable. Much heartfelt appreciation to a wonderful rescue, who not only cares for the animals but looks after the people adopting to make sure they make 4ever matches!
The first pic shows Miss Dixie hiding in her hidey hole, she hates storms. The camo beanbag in the background is her fav sleeping spot if she is in the hidey hole (interior storage room) for very long. The second pic is her at mom’s, my drandson and mom are brushing her, she loved that, both mom and Dixie.
