Programs: The oakland house of ruth provides teaching of the word of god to foster growing in wisdom and knowledge in areas specifically pertaining to women, including life skills, self-esteem and character, anger management, avoiding addictions, etc. This is facilitated through onsite bible studies, attending church worship services, as well as having licensed professionals instruct on getting hygiene and health screenings. We recognize the importance and value of mentoring one-on-one basis with consumers in order to assist them in accomplishing their day-to-day tasks. Mentoring fosters relationships between the consumers and staff and provides practical christian principles for sustainable living and effectively dealing with challenges and crises. Staff counsels consumers on establishing personal plans for growth and development. Consumers participate in classes that teach the basics of finances, starting with setting personal financial goals. With personal goals as a starting point, the women learn how to save, invest, and create a personal spending plan from a biblical perspectives. Oakland house of ruth assists women in successfully passing the ged and focus on understanding and identifying the educational needs and goals of its consumers. Consumers are provided contacts and networks for obtaining resources for getting their geds as well as other higher education. Oakland house of ruth provides access to classes taught by staff and professionals to build its clients' resume writing and interviewing skills. Women are encouraged to participate in networking events to develop relationships with others in their chosen professions. Networking events present insights into professions and potential contacts for gaining employment. Oakland house of ruth extends its services to a multiple disadvantaged women, providing shelter and life skills for them to function in the community. What is unique about this transitional home is the mentorship program which is designed to identify women in distressed situations, offer refuge, counseling, and healing in a faith based environment. The acts full gospel church sisterhood department has committed to coming alongside the women in the oakland house of ruth to provide encouragement, share their experiences, and overall resource to the program.
