Mission: To foster the healthy development of children and families and seek to empower them to respond constructively to negative societal factors including racism and its related consequences. Through comprehensive, high quality mental health and educational services, coupled with research, children and families are aided in developing to their full potential.
Results: Northside’s Home Based Crisis Intervention program prevented 96% of client children from being hospitalized 99% of parent respondents reported they were learning to deal more effectively with their children’s problems. Over a 6-month period, 88% of students in the remedial tutoring program had gains of one or more grade level in at least one subject area. 92% of Pre-Kindergarten special needs’ children advanced to less restrictive environments at the year’s end. 97% of families in our Crisis Intervention Program receive the emotional support they need to keep their children at home and avoid foster care placement. 90% of our Head Start children meet or exceed developmental expectations in literacy. Northside’s Head Start programs are the only Head Starts in New York City to offer American Ballet Theatre dance enrichment for 3 and 4 year olds with certified ABT dance instructors. Two of our Head Start children have received full scholarships to the Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet. Northside received the 2016 Joan H. Tisch Prize for our Clinic in Schools Program. Northside has the only outcome and evaluation unit other than universities to effectively use rigorous data analysis of our programs and services according to the Robin Hood Foundation.
