Mission: Northern virginia urban league purpose is to enable northern virginia african americans and disadvantaged others to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights through program services and effective advocacy.
Programs: Community service program(csp) - provides meaningful community work experience for young people ages 12 to 18 referred by alexandria juvenile court including a male teen responsibility program and intergenerational mentoring program.
alexandria and fairfax county resources mothers project(rm) - provides support for pregnant teens. Rm helps keep pregnant teens connected to pre-natal health care, school community resources and discourages repeat teen pregancy. Girls empowered to move towards success (gems) program provides adult mentoring relationships, involvement in community activities, health education, and career counseling.
education and youth empowerment: annual scholarship awards provides first year college funds to northern virginia africa-american high school seniors. Digital connector program educates youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (stem). Stem provides training in leadership skills, financial literacy, computer hardware and software, website design, video editing and production.
