Norman Arts And Humanities Council

Programs: Annually, the nac grants 57%-60% of the funds allocated to the arts in our granting programs. In fy 16/17 we provided general operating support to the firehouse art center, sooner theatre, the depot, cimarron opera, jazz in june, the norman music alliance, and the cleveland county historical society. Program support went to the norman philharmonic, medieval fair, the national weather center, norman ballet,and the pioneer library system among others. We also offer small grants to organizations for sudden opport- unity programs and arts management support. We require each recipient to complete a final report that we use to calculate the total outreach and impact on the community. In addition to final reports, we participated in the americans for the arts and economic impact study for this fiscal year. Because of that, we know that in fy16/17 our total arts audience was over 1,000,000 people and that the arts generated over $56,000 in spending in norman and nearly $5,000,000 in state and local revenue.

mainsite gallery exhibits and arts programing - through our exhibit and arts programs in our gallery, mainsite, we worked with 171 local artists, 55 national artists, and 3 international artists in fy16/17. We mounted six exhibits in our main space, and one exhibit in our sister city of clermont-ferrand, france. Additionally we mounted exhibits in our smaller gallery spaces including our second collaboration with the girls scouts of western oklahoma and the oklahoma juvenile authority. Arts prog

the 2nd friday art walk continues to be one of the most popular events in norman. Each month we average 1,500 visitors to the businesses, galleries, arts organizations, and restaurants in downtown norman. Art walk has expanded to foster proprietor relationships with artists, that give them a venue to perform or display their work outside of normal operating hours, a food truck area to promote local small businesses, and is now recognized as a special event with the city of norman.
