Causes: Arts & Culture
Mission: About: NOoSPHERE Arts is a 501c3 organization and cultural center led by a team of international creatives whose backgrounds blend the arts and sciences. Its freewheeling, multidisciplinary approach engages diverse audiences and builds community through a range of vibrant public events in its indoor-outdoor home in New York City's Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Mission: NOoSPHERE Arts produces and presents experimental arts programming at the nexus of art and eco-awareness. The only multidisciplinary arts center in the Greenpoint neighborhood, it is a welcoming platform where resident and migrant artists alike connect with locals. Uniting music, dance, visual arts, theater, film, poetry & prose, our collaborative productions harness the power of art to drive action towards green living, fair play, and oneness. Vision: NOoSPHERE Arts encourages dialogue, openness to experimentation, and radical inclusivity. We aim to elevate the voices of historically marginalized populations. We are driven by the desire to ignite a shift in perspective from the parts to the whole. We see life as a cooperative dance energized by creativity and the constant emergence of novelty. Our goal is to instill belief in personal agency and hope through collective action: with shared efforts towards sustainability, diversity, and equity, we can create a more united and joyful world. Through our efforts to give the U.S. audience access to current art from other countries and to bring creative people together for artistic cross-pollination and transnational collaborations, we are building a constantly expanding network of peers spanning the globe.
Results: An annual summer-long program , our WE ARE NATURE Rooftop Series takes place in and around the Kingsland Wildflowers native-flora gardens. Conceived by wildlife experts at NYC Audubon Society, these patches of green across four staggered rooftop levels offer a natural habitat for local fauna and migratory birds. Set against the 360 degrees view of the gritty, industrial environs, with the futuristic, space-like domes of Newton Creek Water Treatment Plant in the middle ground and Manhattan on the horizon, the stunning beauty of these multicolored flowering meadows shines even brighter: a rare nature sanctuary in surroundings increasingly hostile to all living beings. This spectacular setting is uniquely suited to engage a diverse audience in environmental efforts through art. The recurring WE ARE NATURE Rooftop Series offers a combination of multiple art forms – dance, music, performance, visual art, poetry, prose and film – addressing humanity’s place in the greater All.
