Nola Grannies are an independent 501(c)3 organization born out of Grannies Respond / Abuelas Responden, Inc., which formed as a caravan of concerned citizens in July 2017 to travel across the U.S. to the Texas / Mexico border to stand up and protest the separation of children from families legally seeking asylum at the U.S. border. Since then, along with our groups in other states, the Nola Grannies have been assisting asylum-seekers at the bus station who are travelling through to the destinations where their sponsors await. They are often hungry, ill, and broken down. They are generally without money, food, water, hygiene supplies, warm clothes, and more. Nola Grannies fortify them, nourish them, furnish them with necessities, and welcome them! They also are involved in community activities to assist locally situated asylum-seekers who are waiting for hearings or have settled in the area. They are an amazing group of dedicated people and are a 100% volunteer organization.
